Since belief is based on lack of evidence why do atheists constantly use the word lack belief to denote lack of evidence?

ie if belief = lack of evidence

how does lack of belief = lack of evidence

But you can believe something due to supporting evidence. They are not interchangeable concepts.

Belief is despite lack of evidence.

Lack of belief is because lack of evidence.

You first have to understand what atheism is. A-theist literally means not-theist in the same way that a-synchronous means not-synchronous. By defintion everyone that is not theist is an atheist.

There are different degrees or shades of atheism as well. Some atheists simply lack a belief in a God or Gods while others have an affirmative belief that there is no God.

I personally lack belief in the existence of a God because there is no credible evidence to support God as a valid hypothesis to answer any of our unanswered questions about life and the universe. This does not mean or imply that a "lack of belief" = "a lack of evidence" I lack belief because of a lack of evidence, not because a lack of belief implies there is no evidence.

who defines evidence?

Good scientific evidence does not need to be defined. It is not ambiguous, uncertain, unclear, open to numerous interpretations

You cant lack belief due to lack of evidence. Belief does not require evidence.:bugeye:

Think again..

You CAN lack belief in something because there is no evidence.

The ones that do belief chose to ignore that lack of evidence.

I'm sorry that sentence is open to various interpretations as belief assumes lack of evidence

So you're saying that my belief in gravity is because there is a lack of evidence for gravity?

Nope that is your belief in a mechanism for gravity.

Combined with your belief that gravity is random and a matter of luck.

And your belief that it will still be there when you wake up tomorrow.

I think you're confusing belief with faith.

I think you're confusing belief with faith.

The definition of belief is a psychological state that assumes facts not in evidence.

The definition of faith is belief in a deity or deities or to trust
