You almost answered your own question. Humanity develops in the same way as an individual. In Christianity, it is a single organism called the "Church of Christ". Just as your body consists of many cells, so does humanity consist of many people. And if it is useless to explain to a small child that throwing stones at others is bad (he will not understand why it is bad, he will understand it when he gets a response), so humanity as a whole grows up, and already has some experience to understand some things. Therefore, "an eye for an eye" - at one time, and "love your neighbor - at another. Humanity comprehends Good and Evil. It wanted it that way.

Священное Писание нельзя воспринимать буквально, в нём почти всё образно. Нужно иметь особый склад ума, чтобы его понимать. Его писали интуиты для интуитов. В монастырях его изучают всю жизнь, и то, не все понимают полностью.

I am not claiming to be an expert. I lost my religion because I finally read the Bible with a critical view rather than a devotional view.
That was very, very difficult to do as a Christian. After a time I realised that not only was the Bible written by ordinary men, it was conceived by men too.
Nothing to do with a creator god.

Чтобы понимать христианство, и другие религии, если уж вы не можете просто интуитивно верить (интуиция есть не у всех от природы, как не у всех есть музыкальный слух), нужно много ещё чего изучить. Восточные религии, восточные практики. Я их изучала в юности, причём много общалась с живыми людьми, а не только по книгам. Хотя, их тоже не все понимают.

I think many of us lost our religion when we actually read the bible. Personally, I found the idea of sacrificing a scapegoat to die for the sins of the world to be non-sensical. Especially since the scapegoat came back to life, so it wasn't really that much of a sacrifice.

Yes, just one of the many things that made no sense about that.
We are all born in sin because some couple who never existed 6000 years ago wanted knowledge. What!?
The god who made the rules created a get out clause that involved the execution of his own son, for an imaginary crime by imaginary people.
Add to the fact that Adam was the FIRST time the creation fucked up, second was the flood, third was Jesus because he still has to come back! Fourth time lucky?
Zero sense.
