My avatar is real, some people like to keep their name private but are not bothered about showing themselves. Others prefer the other way and some reveal neither, I am the first.

I think in some ways, love is instinctive. Different versions of it.

So, you’re referring to romantic love, only? There are other types of love. If a bird falls out of a tree and you see that it needs help, do you walk away or try to help it? If you choose to take it in to your home and help it to heal, that’s love. It’s a selfless act of humility and generosity that stems from your ability to love, without the bird being able to “repay you.” I see love as having many shades.
Я не о романтике, а как раз о такой любви, как вы описываете. Человек может пожертвовать собой, спасая другого. Почему этот другой становится для него главнее?

I think it’s really just part of being human - the ability to put others first, sometimes. Of course, there are sociopaths in life who may not put anyone first. And I’m not saying that it’s a hard and fast rule of life - that you should put anyone and everyone before yourself. Like if you’re in an abusive relationship, putting your abuser first could jeopardize your own safety. I don’t think the human species would have survived as long as it has without love. Just my opinion, I’m not sure there’s any scientific proof of that. lol
How ironic! I streamed Mass today (Roman Catholic) and it was about “the road less traveled,” but it always comes back to agape. “Love your neighbor as yourself” Jesus said - one would think that’d be the easiest thing to do, but just one look at our world, and it clearly isn’t.

Care includes self-preservation, love can be a fortified version of care which normally comes naturally. It can simply be lust masquerding as love. Few other things too. It probably doesn't exist, it's just a word we use to describe no special property, it's forms of existing properties.
Can animals love in your opinion?

I've always struggled with this supposed dichotomy between love and lust. My experience is that lust is always accompanied by some degree of love. I've never been to bed with a woman I did not feel some responsibility to care for, and whose welfare wasn't a concern to me. I think lust actually breeds love: the intimacy, lowering of all defences and shedding of inhibition seems to create a degree of love inescapably. The act of sex itself is after all largely an act of giving.
Maybe it's just me, though. I've never been one for one night stands - there was only one of those. (Bangkok 1987: English woman called Mary.)
