What is love in the broadest sense?

Why do people sacrifice themselves for her? Why is love stronger than the instinct of self-preservation?

He died in a concentration camp in a one off human event. You said "in the broadest sense."
Love in a concentration camp is 100 x more specific than "love in an elevator," which I thought was rather specific at the time.
And ........it's still just biochemistry.

Can we change our biochemistry in the same way that we change our genetics? (epigenetics)

Or are you suggesting that we are entirely at the mercy of the biochemical makeup we have in our body and brain?

Do people with better emotional intelligence tend to be more successful in their relationships,I wonder.

Он умер в газовой камере вместе со своими воспитанниками, хотя мог избежать этой участи. Это и есть настоящая любовь к ближнему, любовь с большой буквы. Какая здесь биохимия? Чужие дети, никакого окситоцина. Что побуждает человека отказаться от собственной жизни ради других? Какой эволюционный механизм здесь задействован?

Ага, есть такой русский мультик про кота Леопольда, который был слишком добрым, его постоянно обижали мыши, и врачи выписали ему таблетки под названием "Озверин", чтобы он стал агрессивным. Это один из моих любимых мультфильмов. Мне всегда было очень жалко этого доброго кота, у которого любимой фразой было: " Ребята, давайте жить дружно!"

Like methylation? Yes to an extent. If you don't drink for a month you are hammered after 4 beers when you drink again.

We do, it's called being human. That is why we have lived in large and small societies for 1000s of years.

I do not think you are interested in what I think those things are, you want to TELL me what they are.

Нет, мне интересно мнение разных людей. Особенно честных, которые не стараются "выглядеть святее Папы Римского". Однажды один парень на вопрос: "кого бы он спасал - свою собаку, или неприятного ему человека?", честно ответил: "конечно же свою любимую собаку, а на то, как тонет мой сосед с вернего этажа, я бы с удовольствием посмотрел". Цинично, но честно.
