While those certainly look like "Roman" salutes, we know they're not because of context. The difference of course is that Musk is supporting anti-Semitic white nationalist people and parties around the world. Those Dems in the picture are not. Making some kind of similarity statement is absurd.

To be more specific here are a few questions for you:
1) Trump has defined male to be the sex that produces the small reproductive cell, and female to be the sex that produces the large reproductive cell. If someone produces NO reproductive cells, what sex are they? What gender are they?
2) If you had a daughter (with all the usual female parts) and you found out, at age 15, that she was XY (i.e. genetically male) then what sex would she be? What gender would she be? And would you force her to use a men's bathroom, and quit the women's swim team she was on?
3) If you had a child and they were a Prader Stage 4, what sex are they? What gender are they? Would you get surgery for them? (i.e. "mutilate" them to use a favorite right wing term)
These should be easy for you since you know this stuff, and "it is what it is."

It is an abnormality to have male sex organs and feel like a female. It is what it is but it isn't "normal".
Gender on the other hand is subjective. Yesterdays "effeminate" guy is todays fluid gender but so is the female who is a tomboy one day and overly feminine the next. It's normal, doesn't need a label and no one else needs to know about it.
It's just a little odd to separate gender from sex these days and then proceed to make gender irrelevant and yet insist that everyone know about it but no one can define it. Just drop the term or the focus on its importance or its distinction.
It's this part I would like to address, the request for you to support your side of the argument and the response you offered.
I've seen, even recently, some of your more well thought out, well written and fully engaging posts here and I often wonder why you wouldn't keep that same level of integrity, honesty and thoughtfulness into more of your posts, especially those you appear to be engaged and in earnest, as they are too few and far in be twixt.
If for example, sex and gender were defined differently, that is not a problem for you or me. We can both lay arguments for each one of them and each one of them could be different or they could be the same. I'm suspecting that in your case, the argument is that sex and gender are treated equally in that whatever goes for one must go for the other. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Why am I not surprised? Bible thumpers who lecture others on the Bible are the least likely to know what's in the Bible. Conservatives who tell people "it's very simple!" don't understand gender OR sex.
For a great example of this, when Ketanji Brown Jackson was being confirmed, a conservative asked her what the definition of a woman was. She said "I'm not a biologist." Conservatives like you then mocked her for "not knowing what a woman was."
Then a reporter asked several conservatives what a woman was. None could answer clearly. One said "anyone with a uterus." The reporter then asked if a woman who had had a hysterectomy was still a woman. Conservative said "I don't know."
Another said "my wife." So sorry all you other women out there! You are no longer women since you're not married to Thom Tillis.
A third said "an adult female of the human species" - but no definition of "female" was forthcoming from him.

For a long time women wearing pants was abnormal. Blacks marrying whites was abnormal. Gay people were abnormal. Nowadays all those things are pretty normal. Trans people will go through a similar "transition" (no pun intended.)
Heck, I'm abnormal since I am one of the .003% of the population with a seaplane rating - there's less than 10,000 of us in the US. As a comparison, there are about 20,000 people in the US who are genetically male but phenotypically female, a condition called CAIS. These are women who look like women and feel like women, and 99.9% of the time think they are women, but are genetically male.
Now, looking at the number of people who "have male sex organs and feel like a female" - there are about 800,000 of them total. Much more "normal" than I am.
Feeling like you are female IS gender, and yes, it is subjective.

You know that there are male women. There is no way that is BS. As a matter of fact, I'd say this is one of the more important issues facing our country and it's important to stress the male woman issue every day. Forget the debt, let's focus on male women and inequality. Those are the problems that really matter.
How about this, if H2O is the sex, then ice, water and steam are the genders.

There is unfairness and inequality in holding a seaplane rating and it would be better for society if housing was more affordable and seaplane ratings were less affordable. You only have a seaplane rating because you are a Cis gendered white male with privilege but due to your privilege you probably can't see that.
We really should tax your income higher as well as the tax on seaplane ratings since the poor don't have seaplane ratings due to systemic inequalities and that's hardly fair. That's why I don't have one. I decided to take a stand for equality but you do you.
