One thread to rule them all!

This is for general discussion of whatever it is that President Trump gets up to in his second term.

If there are major events, as opposed to just the usual daily political schenanigans, please feel free to start separate threads to discuss those. However, if you just want to vent about the outrageous thing that Trump did today, this is the thread for that.

No thanks. I've decided the way to preserve my sanity is to view Trump's idiotic presidency through the lens of the "goat rodeo". So I intend to watch with amusement the damage those fools in the USA have decided to inflict on their own country by re-electing this man. But it is making me a bit more active in UK politics. The last thing I want is the absurdity of Frogface Farage as PM in 4 years' time. -_O

It's a line you've spouted numerous times, and it is no more true now than it was all those other times.
I know you consider it an aphorism, and link it to cause and effect, but "deserve" isn't a matter of science. Sure, one certainly gets what one gets due to the chain of cause and effect, but "deserve" is a matter of judgement. And the universe, cause and effect, doesn't judge. Simples.

1460 days, for those of you wanting to keep a track of how much longer he needs to be endured.

And days since he has said/done something for which the rest of the world has simply shaken their head in bemusement: 0
You are making an assumption here: that TFG* won't alter the rules, on some pretext, to stay in power indefinitely. That is what autocrats who come to power via elections customarily do... declare a state of emergency or something...it's a very old trick.

I read that he plans to sack all the military top brass who he thinks won't profess allegiance to him personally. Why would that be a priority, I wonder?

* I understand TFG officially meant "The Former Guy", but I - innocently - always assumed it meant "That F***ing Guy". So I intend to carry on using it.

Do some more research on the Law of Cause and Effect... or not.

The rule of law subverted, day two. Glad we didn't have to wait.

CNN —
With the stroke of a pen on Monday, President Donald Trump completely upended the Justice Department’s four-year effort to arrest, prosecute and punish the people who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

It was the largest criminal probe in American history, those who heeded Trump’s call in 2021 to come to Washington and try to stop Congress from certifying his 2020 election defeat. More than 140 police officers were injured during the seven-hour siege, which also led directly or indirectly to the deaths of four Trump supporters in the mob and five police officers.

Trump on Monday pardoned nearly every single convicted January 6 rioter, and at his direction, the Justice Department is also beginning to ask the federal court in Washington, DC, to dismiss pending cases with prejudice, meaning charges cannot be brought again at a later date.

The presidential proclamation Trump signed in the Oval Office said this action of mass clemency “ends a grave national injustice that has been perpetrated upon the American people.”

Trump’s pardons make no effort to distinguish between people who engaged in violence that day compared with those who were charged or convicted of nonviolent offenses...

I know about the law of cause and effect, thanks. No more research needed. Maybe you need to comprehend what "deserve" means? Just a thought, as you currently don't seem to. The more you focus on cause and effect the more you show that you don't. But, hey, c'est la vie.

And Ramaswamy has already resigned or been pushed/sacked (noone is yet too sure) - maybe to run for Governor of Ohio as a parody account tweeted he would be doing. But there's also "gossip" that he was constantly being undercut by Musk's team, and was frustrated at not doing any of the "heavy lifting". But, still. Day 1 and already resignations.

That's pretty much what I expected. I'll leave you to it then.

Here's a partial transcript for a future interview between Musk--or anyone in Trump's administration, really--and CBS News:

CBS: You say that you're a Nazi, but are you a Nazi?

Musk, et al: I'm a Nazi.

CBS: You're a Nazi.

Musk, et al: I'm a Nazi.

CBS: OK, you say that you're a Nazi, but what exactly do you mean by that?

...

C'mon--that's just a standard "thank you, from the bottom of my heart" gesture! And he did it twice, just to make that clear.
I like the Confederate-style line of stars in the backdrop. I noticed the same thing at TFG's rallies.;)

:)

Then you have the apologists, especially with Trump, trying to parse his words...

Apologist: I don't think that's what he means, though, when he says he's a Nazi. What he means is that he does Nazi things and believes Nazi things, which is somewhat different to, you know, being a Nazi. I mean, he's not wearing the uniform, so he can't be a Nazi.
