A Riddle

here's a little riddle for fun..

-what is in a meadow, yet not in a field?
-what is not in father, yet is in mother?
-what is in me and not in you?

I concur.

We seem to have given up on the locomotive puzzle.
Ans:
One trains the guard, the other guards the train. ;)

#Sometimes all I need is the air that I breath# (la la la).:D

ismu, how long could you hold onto the air in your lungs? Not more than two or three minutes methinks:)
OK Banshee, I think it's air.

Counterbalance...
II "It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills
It comes first and follows after,
Ends lilfe, kills laughter..."

nothing? comes first and follows after, fills empty holes?

III "Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters."

wind? wingless flutters, toothless bites?

somnium...

Welcome to sciforums.
May all of your posts be inane!!

The obvious answer to your riddle is the letter 'm'!

ESP,

I was close on the train conductor :D

You are right on the third one. It is the wind.

The second one you are oh so close on. Think not of the abscence of anything, but of the abscence of one thing in particular and what that abscence is called.

Here a couple more from the Hobbit...

[1] A box without hinges, key, or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid...

What is it?

[2] What has roots as nobody sees,
is taller than trees,
up, up it goes,
and yet never grows?

AAAAAH

Darkness :)

[2] What has roots as nobody sees,
is taller than trees,
up, up it goes,
and yet never grows?

Sky?

#1 is very droad in context. Hmm. Get back to you on that one.

1) "Eggses!" he hissed. "Eggses it is!"

2) "Easy!" said Bilbo. "Mountain, I suppose."

Peace.

Banshee,

Apologies aren't necessary. I almost thought I had posted something myself the first time I ran across one of TruthSeeker's posts.:D

Thank you SeekerOfTruth...

sighs releaved... :) ;)

Back to the riddle then?: 'Say that it is and it is no more...'

Wonderful thread, this riddling. Though I am really NOT good at it... :D

Red herring

An old fahioned British type telephone booth.. phone off the hook is hanging down by the wire. On the floor a man lies dead with outstretched and bloodied arms poking through the broken glass panes. Nearby lies a large dead fish!
What happened?

Is it a variant on the Monty Python fish slapping sketch gone awry? :D

NEW RIDDLE

IT is more powerful than "GOD"
IT is more evil than the "DEVIL"
if you eat IT you will die
A poor man has IT
a rich man wants IT
