Dot generator

There are many different kinds of dot generators and the simplest must be the pencil. By applying the tip of the pencil to a piece of paper you generate a dot. This process can be repeated to general a pattern of dots.

a diagnostic tool used for television repair.. in B/W it is used to adjust the horizontal and vertical oscillators (see raster) linearity. in color it is used to adjust the convergence of the electron beams to produce a sharp picture primarily after a new picture tube is installed.

flat panel displays require no convergence as they are manufactured already converged. see picture tube.
