its not surprising they attacked. it was lose lose for them. if they let the aid through it might actually allow the gazans to have some semblence of normalcy which would undermine the Israeli policy of trying to make them suffer until they leave(lets be real the only reason they left gaza as much as they have is to concentrate on the west bank. if they get that they will be right back expanding into gaza.). if they stop it they show their disdain for life and their desire to harm the palestinians. They didn't fire on the flotilla, I haven't read a single report which says they "Fired" on them. If they did...there would be 600 dead people, not (an oddly worded) maximum of 16. An air drop-in of Israeli military boarded the ships, 600 passionate individuals had amongst them a few which resorted to violence and so they were apparently shot in the altercation.

A few questions:
1. How did they find 600 people stupid enough to get on boats, and who convinced them they would actually help the situation?

2. What did people expect, Israel would just capitulate to media pressure?

3. The first 3 ships which successfully entered Gaza didn't have a media presence, the last 3 did. If these people really care about helping people with aid why didn't they eliminate media presence?

The Israelis have cut off all communication from the ships under attack. Now there is no way to get information from the ships about what is happening.

The al Jazeera reporters are on board the ships so as soon as they can contact their main center we will get the news.

Even if it was just small arms fire it would still be that they fired upon them. and bullshit that any of those people started shit. the Israelis were itching for a fight and probably went right for pulling the trigger.

Highly idiotic. Especially when you have camera feed from al Jazeera showing passengers all lying down on board with Israeli soldiers holding machine guns on them, 10 dead and God knows how many injured.
