To me it makes no sense for the USA military to launch, have ships and air craft in motion and suddenly be worried about the potential deaths of (according to reported comments by Trump) a mere 100 Iranian military personnel.
Just the expense of launching, in dollars would be massive.
( and at the moment the USA Fleet is a sitting duck vulnerable to any non-state aligned anonymous actor)
There is every reason to believe it was called off because of an intervention and not because Trump decided to turn an operational failure into a publicity stunt.
To suggest that it was merely an act of intimidation in today's world would be silly as well...
As far as I know the worlds powers will have total coverage of that region with advanced satellite surveillance tech and the question of whether the drone was in international waters or not can easily be resolved.
The USA doesn't have a monopoly on intelligence gathering nor does Israel.
Perhaps Putin threatened to thoroughly embarrass Trump with release of classified satellite detail and Trump couldn't afford to launch a war based on a proven lie?

I am the only person who has done the math breakdown showing he has likely flushed at least $805 000 DAILY for the past 34 years (equivalent). Nobody else has that I know of.
