Exactly SAM! Thats what I tell everyone...but they are all suggesting it, neverthless...get a SONY instead.

You're missing the point, she wants OSX specifically so all Windows machines are automatically disqualified.

One of my colleagues got a Dell this year and already has problems.

Maybe they are shit in India..

Besides, you're basing you judgment of Dell on one crappy laptop ? Maybe the coworker is a dumb shit and fucked it up himself.

You're going for longevity so you should get one of the faster ones available to you. Apple doesn't have too much of a selection on their website though, 2.1 to 2.6. I think right in the middle with 2.4 will be fine.

Thanks, that sounds good, I like to sound knowledgeable when I'm talking to the sales representative. :D

I'm not sure what you do exactly, are you affiliated with an academic institution? If yes, I think you can get a discount.

I can get a loan, I don't have a car or any mortgage payments or debts and I can eat noodles for a year if I have to. :D

your kiddin me...

a grown woman in biochem industry with a full wage job getting a loan for a 2k laptop while eating cheap Chinese noodles...

let's repeat it: She never mentioned the price range....

Seriously, unless we know your budget, we can't really advice you. Fucking DUH!!!

That's a personal choice, I can't stand small screens so I would get the 15". A larger screen is also beneficial when I'm working with large spreadsheets and stuff.

I have a 12" right now and 20/20 vision so the size is not a problem, I can manage that. But I'm leaning towards the Pro anyway, because the last time, I went for convenience and now I need to buy a new computer since I cannot upgrade. But it depends on how easy it will be to upgrade a Pro. Besides computers may be a different animal four years hence.

I'd prefer to be under US$ 3000

Computers will be a different animal in as little as 1-2 years. What you're buying now is basically the end of Intel's current architecture and CPU lineup. They're coming out with a new set this year, with processors that won't work with the motherboard in your laptop. In 3 years time, the current CPUs will still be available and cheap... the question is if Apple will provide and install them for you as an upgrade. That's something to ask your sales rep.
