Insulting Religion

Consciousness is the most amazing and magical thing in the (known) universe; it's the most important thing in our lives. It's so amazing that science doesn't know how to create it.

If you are equating spirit with consciousness then yes, science will never be able to duplicate it no matter how much the brain is studied and how many facts about it are logically inferred. However, if consciousness is based within the physical then no, science will one day be successful at fully duplicating it. And perhaps even the reality of spirit may be duplicated. A piece of God within every advanced piece of AI technology? Perhaps.

There are lots of things we don't know, it's no shame to admit that. But if you resort to magic to explain it, it's like pretending to know something you don't know.

What is the bare minimum to create consciousness? Sure you have neurons, axons, dendrites. How do you get consciousness?

Not sure, just yet, but I'll have millions of years and many generations of prototypes to work on it. If nature can do it, so can I.

... it's hard to get excited about atheism.

I would agree, not much exciting about not having a belief in magical super beings. That's why we would much rather turn our attention to reality, because it has far more interesting things than whatever a brain dead believer can imagine.

Nature has created it, and that's all that matters. Religions are trying to destroy it.

You're a stain who knows nothing about reality.

You can certainly try to program a computer to act human, but does it have a consciousness? Do you even know what consciousness is? Do you even know what you're trying to prototype?

I never experienced any of those things as a Spiritualist or as a New Ager. I only experienced hope, wonder encouragement, love, kindness, caring...

That's a lie. You show almost nothing but fear and hatred on this forum, so your religion isn't helping, if it isn't directly causing it.

@Mazulu
Wouldn't consciousness be something closely related to this?

Is no. What you get by consciousness is the state of awareness of yourself, your surroundings, anything and everything that exists that you comprehend that EXISTS, consciousness is also related to rationality, but let's not get further into that.

If so it can be recreated with AI considering every single of each one of the factors presented on the above quotation. But still...
As defined on dictionary.com
1. the state of being*conscious
; awareness of one's own existence, sensations, thoughts, surroundings, etc.2. the thoughts and feelings, collectively, of an individual or of an aggregate of people:*the moral consciousness of a nation.3. full activity of the mind and senses, as in waking life:*to regain consciousness after fainting.
http://m.dictionary.com/definition/consciousness

Going for item after item, on these descriptions in there, how would we recreate a consciousness?
1. Making the bearer of the object -consciousness- aware of the definition of conscious/conscience.
2. Once it is aware of that, make the object tangible and understanble in a practical way.
3. Make understandable/attainable the definition of existence.
4. Making the bearer of the object comprehend/attain the meaning of existence, thus geting self-conscious.
5. Make the bearer of the object attain comprehension of his reality, where he is/belong.
6. Make the bearer of the object aware of his surroundings in a material way. His physical world.
7. Make the bearer aware that he is now sentient.
8. Make the bearer aware that the other sentient bearers around it also are conscious.
...... LOONY ISN'T IT? That's how it goes by AI. Crazy stuff is crazy...
Oh and sorry to interrupt any ongoing argumentation, please go on yes, yes...

Naturalism allows for a non-religious concept of god. The universe, considered a closed system, can only be effected by that which is either a part or product of the universe. Pandeism explicitly assumes a god that became the universe, without any further input other than naturalistic interactions of its constituent parts.
Solar system, galaxy, universe, multiverse, can all be considered distinct entities composed of various dynamic elements. Other than just proclaiming it as such, what qualities would distinguish one from the others in regards to its classification as god?

Easy. Omnipresence. There is no "other".
