Everyday sexism

Interesting..try as I may I can not find the number of deaths in USA due to domestic violence...you would think you say hey Google.. etc..and you get a result...must be me...does anyone have the figure..blacks and whites.. theist / atheists? A link ..I have given up.

As I said earlier this has a greater purpose then what immediatley meets the eye. :rolleyes:

Anyway my everyday banter will certainly continue as is, just as others everyday banter continues towards me, without any malice or sublime messages, or evil intent, which sadly only exists in the eyes of those pushing their silly pretentious nonsense, without any real thought to the real evils that exist.
It troubles me none Alex, because I know I am not wrong...not one little bit.
The Mrs the other day happened to see and read some of James comments, and simply remarked "what's wrong with him?" and the young bloke yesterday while we were drinking and speaking man to man, Daddy to Son, when I explained the issue at hand and the pretentious nonsense that has developed, remarked the he has a friend who constantly refers to all as mate or Luv, and also has never met with any displeasure.
I really could go on and on and on, but as one of my adversary's has noted, "who gives a shit":rolleyes:

I must find some figures related to the BLM stuff but even at this stage I don't think the number of women killed by partners match the killing rate attributed to the cops..actually more men seemed to be killed by partners than the cops are killing...
What gives why would not attention be greater on this problem given the high number of victims???

I think it's time to start a protest for the victims of domestic violence.....
I wonder does a woman feel more offended by being called love or by having her ex partner beat her to death?

Hollywood is a mirror of our culture. If you find things depicted in Hollywood offensive - that's great. They indicate changes we have to make in society.

In the old serial "The Honeymooners" a recurring joke was "to the moon, Alice" - a reference that her husband would hit her so hard he'd knock her unconscious. It always got a laugh. The writers of that show used that joke because a husband hitting his wife was a common occurrence. They didn't make it up - they used it because it happened a lot. Had people seen that and been offended back then, that would have been great - it might have pushed changes in society faster than the glacial pace at which they moved.

In my lifetime I've seen similar changes. There are plenty of examples of '80s movies that mocked Asians, gay people, blacks (although that was slowly getting better) and feminists. Rape jokes were always good for a laugh. Today those things are far less frequent - and when they occur there's an uproar, which is good. (Often the uproar is somewhat mistargeted, but awareness has to precede any change.)

So I agree that there's a lot of negative messaging out of Hollywood. For the most part that comes from negative things happening in our society, like the glorification of the anorexic body image for women. I am all for reducing it by making changes in society, and by using the rating system to keep teens out of the worst depictions of rape/violence/revenge etc. I would worry about banning things outright - because that might help cover up some of society's faults.

My attempt to draw attention to the more serious issues.
I am for improving things but my point is that focus need be on the very serious things rather than what I call minor issues that do not show malice...to put on such a performance over the calling folk love or to focus on non malice habits in the community ...which will disappear with time..in my view wastes energy that could be directed at more serious issues.
After all calling someone love or mate is an attempt to be friendly and although many may resent such familiarity it is not malicious .... and the other thing is...now I don't call folk love or sweety but I don't them run around trying to have others do it my way...and seriously your stand fails to recognise that in certain communities what you think is a problem just is not.
However domestic violence is malicious and cruel and deserves more attention than the perceived lack of respect where folk don't understand not everyone welcomes familiarity or attempts to be friendly.
Moreover I don't think such familiarity, at least what has been on the table here, is sexist it is more annoying habits of old people ... none of these folk use love or in the case I experienced being called sweety these terms as something sexual and to say they do is simply incorrect.

This was my attempt to have folk think about the triviality of attempts to be friendly and perhaps crossing the line of unwelcome familiarity and the most serious matter of deaths related to domestic violence..more than one woman each week dies in this country and in USA the numbers are very high also, although I have yet to determine current rates one can assume they are similar per capita to here...these killings are serious.
Hyper friendliness or over familararity from old people is a problem that will die out with the folk who are over familiar but I doubt if deaths due to domestic violence will just go away...and given the constant elevation of the virtues of managing all problems with violence by Hollywood the respect for others that should prevail just can not happen.

on average, these people are really bad shots.

Well it is educational and I would like to think that in some small way things will get better maybe from actions from someone inspired to be a better human after considering something they read here.
