Trump 2.0

Really? You can't work out what I'm saying there?
That is all he does, very rarely makes a point and when someone else points multiple and very obvious counter points, he simply pretends not to understand.
He is a lying troll.
As I have told him before, if he comes out with something I can report him on I will.
Every chance I get.

Being angry with me over why Harris lost and Trump won, I’m not sure what that does for you. It certainly doesn’t solve the dilemma the country is in now. I didn’t vote for Trump, but you just need someone to be mad at. I get it. But, it isn’t going to really help your cause, whatever that may be.
Just gonna point out the obvious here: You tell us you're "not a Republican" and yet you repeatedly parrot easily debunked right-wing talking points about "the border crisis" and "inflation" (following a global pandemic, funny that?). And then you have the audacity to whine when people call you out for being disingenuous?

I don't give two shits about "identity politics", or what some people erroneously perceive as such, and I don't care what people say they are or are not. I go by what people say and what people do. The weird ontological declarations are just noise. Your mileage may vary, but empirical shit works for me and it's saved my ass on many an occasion.

Is this the political version of Poe's Law in action?...

The MAGA Rep Earl Carter from Georgia has introduced legislation that would authorise Trump to acquire Greenland, and then to name it "Red, White, and Blueland". Seriously.

I mean, are they now laughing at themselves? Are they just running with this chaos and seeing who can come up with the most absurd thing that actually becomes approved?

Well reducing Congress to a laughing stock would be one way to damage trust in the legislative branch of government, which would be grist to the Project 2025 mill. Bozo had a go at doing the same to the UK parliament and partially succeeded in lowering the tone and making people a bit disgusted with it.

Aren't you guys doing the same thing in here? Republicans are trying their hardest to bring themselves down but you guys mocking them on a daily basis, actually helps them.

Don’t think anyone has been belittling the proceedings of Congress, have they?

One of the saddest things I have seen from the right recently is the very clear tradeoff they are making. I have read several comments along the lines of "ok so what if he's a rapist and a felon and he's dismantling our government and ending worker safety and ensuring the next pandemic is much worse? I might save some money on my taxes! He might even reduce the deficit!"

The former party of morality has become the party of "everything is for sale."

Okay, I'll insert myself here to breath some life into this dusty, dank Mausoleum.

WooHoo!

There is insufficient time in the remaining Universe's future to attempt to talk you folks out of all the stuff you believe with gay abandon.

The last election should be an indicator to y'all that yours are the minority opinions on practically everything anymore.

Catch up as best you can.

Don't let the fact of Trump not winning 50% of the popular vote hit you on the way out.
Or the disenfranchised who couldn't vote (a situation that is only going to get worse).
But I guess if you're happy in your delusion...

"Shock" news:
US consumer inflation (CPI) higher than expected in January 2025
Analysts had expected a 0.3% rise, but were hit with 0.5%, and this is before any impact of recent tariffs and general fuckaroundary from TOF. Annual rate has risen to 3.0%.

No doubt the spin will be that this is all Biden's fault, and will be until (if ever) prices start to drop in price.
Yup, tariffs will increase inflation, but I see Trump is calling for interest rate to be reduced -_O Reminds me of Erdogan.

This may however be a way to start the process of destabilising Jay Powell and undermining the independence of the Fed. I understand the Prarject calls for central bank policy to be under the control of the Führer.

Powell, to his credit, has indicated, rather acidly, that the president has no authority “under the law” to get rid of him until his term is up, which I think is next year some time.

Should the Irish Prine Minister meet Trump when they go to the US (among other countries) for Sr Patrick's day?

I would say no but would fear the consequences of rebuffing the regime shaping up in the land of the wee.

Small countries may be loathe to do the heavy lifting others can do(and it may be unfair to expect them to put their head above the parapet-although sone politicians in this link are seemingly urging that)

Aye. Powell will (hopefully) remain. He indicated after the election that he would not resign, even if asked to, and, as you say, current rules say that the President has no authority to sack him. His term is up in May 2026.
Trump initially said that he wanted interest rates to be cut immediately, and, bizarrely, that all other countries should then follow suit. And now he's saying he wants them lowered to go "hand in hand" with tariffs. So tariffs will be inflationary... and lowering the interest rate will be... inflationary.
But Powell has said that he doesn't pay attention to the comments of elected officials, but rather looks at the underlying data.

As people had warned before the election, Trump will want the economy to run as hot as possible, make himself look as good as possible, even at the longer term expense of the population. As long as there's no crash on his watch, he'll happily hand over the creakiest and most unstable of economies to the next person... and then blame them.

The last election saw millions of Democratic (Black, Brown, Woman) votes purged in Republican controlled states, specifically the swing states. Dems would have won.

I wonder which Fox chatshow host, or 30something crypto tech bro, he will appoint in Powell’s place as Chairman of the Fed, when Powell’s term expires.

Right. But Trump can just have him arrested. National security and all that. Failing that, he can target his family, and his supporters will do the rest.

That’s why I thought his “under the law” phrase was suitably acidic. That was central-banker-speak for “…. but with this f***ing goat rodeo now in progress, who knows what might happen”.

Wife: How was your day, dear?

ICE Officer: Great! We dragged several people out of their church today while they were worshipping with their wives and children, then we went to an elementary school and dragged some more people away from their children while they were picking them up. I'm sure the kids were traumatized for life. Haha!

The change stems from President Trump’s Executive Order 14148, which rescinded dozens of the previous administration’s policies. As a result, schools, hospitals, places of worship and social service establishments may now be subject to increased enforcement actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
