Why are christians so stupid?

2 things

1. I completely disagree with M*W's claim that Christians are stupid many are quite intelligent

2. But that doesn't change the fact that many of the scriptures are still flawed, not only in Christianity but other religions too.

an example being: in Genesis God brings a flood down on the earth to kill all humanity accept for Noah and his family and a number of animals. It rains for 40 days until "the mountains were covered to a depth of 15 cubits" and then they floated at that level for 150 days.

now if we assume that the climate has stayed the same and that Everest has remained its current height since the beginning of time then Noah would have surely died because of 2 reasons.

1. he would have frozen to death. they would have been in -19 Celsius temperatures for 5 months with nothing but maybe the equivalent in warmth to a burlap sack.

2. The air is about 33% thinner at that height and along with freezing to death they would have been struggling to be able to get a full breath of air.

Between those 2 factors everyone on board the ark should have been dead within 2-4 months and would have never made it to land safely on mount Ararat.

I don't see how mickey mouse can be compared to Lao Tzu.
Is there any evidence for either's existence.
I know there is no evidence, there is no evidence of god either, people have faith it makes them happy and gives them hope for when you die.
Nice, relevance to their senselessness please, being happy doesn't change a thing.
people in a asylums are happy, Retarded/down syndrome people are happy.
How can you make that kind of judgement on a person you have never met or even spoke to?. No she would not do that she does not blindly follow rules and commands, even if god herself told her to kill out of cold blood she would refuse I know that 100% because we have alredy debated this.
I can make that judgment, as it happened so many times before. If she would not obey her god, could she really call herself a Christian.
Le 18:4"You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God".
Acts 5:29 "We must obey God rather than men!
1Jo 5:3 "This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome"
So that means everybody will do it just because other people have in the past?, thats like saying all muslims will turn into suicide bombers if they are told to do it.
Very likely given the right incentive.
The religious have learnt nothing over the centuries.
That statement cannot be applied to every religious person, Im pretty sure good people have done evil things and they were Atheists
but it wasn't atheism, that caused them to be evil, atheism has no dogma, no churches, and above all no beliefs.
as well not all religious. I was an Atheist and consider myself a decent person at heart, but I did some evil things.
If your not atheist now, then you never were.
You cannot generalize with prejudice stereotypes and paint every person with the same brush just because they hold faith.
Why not, if given the same incentives they do the same thing else, they are just pseudo religious.
Thats the same kind of mentality that makes religious people stereotype Atheists and say "all Atheists are this or that".
Sorry dont think so, atheists have verifiable evidence, for there statements, The religious are only being bitchy.
Can you not understand that religious people can also make there own decisions as to what is right and wrong?,
Oh wow. do come on now your being childish of course they can, until the delusion takes precedence.
not all of them follow everything just because a book says so.
Agreed, but those are the pseudo religious.
You make huge assumptions about a person you have never even spoken too,
As I said before, the history of the religion, give me reason to be careful.
that is not wise when making judgement calls. Don't you believe in having evidence before making a decision?,
Got it.
you seem to have a type of "faith" that people you don't know all would kill people for no reason just because a vision tells them too.
That because throughout history people have killed other people simply because they didn't follow there religion.

So you lacked faith too. Interesting, that appears to be a pattern. Needs a poll.

There are two relevant definitions of faith:

1) Unconditional acceptance that some assertion is true.
2) Unconditional trust.

Before I was an atheist, I had unconditional acceptance that what religion claimed was true (that includes the existence of 'God', angels, demons, etc.). During that time I didn't value truth too highly... but that changed. Truth began giving me alot of pleasure (even if it was an uncomfortable truth) and I began valuing truth very highly. For an assertion to be true, it has to correspond with reality and it was quite obvious that the assertion 'God' exists had no correspondence with reality. My unconditional acceptance of assertions then became conditional. Of course, I couldn't unconditionally or even conditionally trust in 'God' because such a life form wasn't present.

trust cannot be unconditional, it must be earned and i don't know about anyone else but God has most definatly not earned my trust

Hello? Why are christians so f*cking stupid? Don't they realize they are the idiots of the universe? What makes them believe the lies they believe? I have friends who are christians, and I just don't understand their logic! Why in the world could anyone be a christian! That is so foreign to me! How could anyone believe in that crap?

The intellectual level of this op is underwhelming.
I have no problem understanding why someone would adopt the teachings of Christ. It's his old man Jehovah, that bewilders me.
"Prove you love me, Kill your son. Psych! Just checking."
I realize this puts me at odds with Judaism, I have troubles with that. As Jews themselves are not a problem for me, but their god... Ugh! As I said, I have trouble resolving this.

I'm inclined to think the being/god Moses conjured may not be the being/god of genesis.
But I'm not going to study the old testament to find the proofs.

Trust is unconditional, conditional trust is not trust.

How in your opinion, would the assertion "God exists" correspond with reality in a way that would convince you of its truth?

would you let a random stranger hold your wallet while you went somewhere? that seems like something requiring some trust.

if trust is unconditonal then it should be given to anyone and everyone so a random stranger is a perfect example. your spouse has already earned your trust at least partial cause you have comited your life to theirs and they to you

By unconditional trust I believe they meant that when you say you trust someone, THAT is unconditional. Not that I necessarily agree, mind you.

but if trust it to be awarded then the person (or deity in this case) in question must prove that they are deserving of your trust thus trust in conditional

MW,

Come on, you're trolling on this one. You know the answers to all these questions already.

Hello? Why are christians so f*cking stupid? Don't they realize they are the idiots of the universe?

There is a strong correlation between higher intelligence and atheism; however, there are plenty of smart theists in the world.

What makes them believe the lies they believe?

Genetics. All humans have a survival mechanism whereby we project qualities of entity A onto entity B. The most prevalent aspect of this mechanism in today's society is anthropomorphism... where humans project human qualities onto non-human entities. That's why we have bugs bunny (human+rabit), mother nature (human+nature), father time (human+time), the grim reaper (human+death), and of course 'God' (human+Sun/galaxy/universe/reality).

Then of course there's resources. Before the last few hundred years, acquiring resources to survive was tough. If your beliefs were compatible with a groups beliefs then they would be very likely to share their resources with you; thus, increasing your chances of survival. That is why our species is prone to believe.

Then of course we are a social species that have alot of psychological needs. Religion satiates many of those needs and it is easy and convenient.

I have friends who are christians, and I just don't understand their logic!

The logic is religion makes them feel good. They value how they feel more than truth. It's actually very logical.

Why in the world could anyone be a christian! That is so foreign to me! How could anyone believe in that crap?

People value and are attracted to what satiates their needs / gives them pleasure.

black isn't a lifestyle choice

unless people go to great length to change it then people stay black their entire life

christians are christian by choice
