Can you imagine explaining that to your insurance company? 'Um, excuse me, I need to file a claim...you see my car was totaled by thirty pounds of flying whale blubber? Yeah. Yeah, I said whale blubber.'

    lol.

Enmos, the whale had already died when it was beached and couldn't be moved. The explosion was the easiest way to clear the carcass from the beach.

Yeah, that was a disaster. Guess what, another whale just washed up this past weekend on the Oregon coast. I don't think they are going to blow it up this time.

wouldn't it have been easier to dig a trench and bury it?

Yea, I figured that from the posts. But why would I want to see a corpse being blown up ?
I thought the standard procedure was to drag it out to open sea..

Well, from some of the posts it sounded like the whale was alive at the time of the explosion. I was hoping you weren't getting that impression, since it is considerably more sinister.

I don't really know what the easiest way to remove the carcass would be, or what the standard procedure is. I see that I worded my last sentence poorly, however, so I'll clarify. It seems that the people charged with removing the whale carcass felt the easiest way to remove it was to use an explosion.

I've heard that they usually drag these corpses out to open sea, but I don't know if it's true.
As for 'removing' the corpse using an explosion.. I don't think they removed anything, they just spread it out

Well, of course they didn't actually remove anything with the explosion itself. But they were able to easily move the smaller pieces afterwards. I don't think they were quite expecting it to spread around as much as it did. It's pretty clear that the whole maneuver wasn't planned very thoroughly.

Part of me just laughs silly when that guy throws the fire thing into the wood building and it doesn't just go up immediately but explodes like a bomb, lol

Did you see any women involved in that plan?

You know they were talking about dragging it out, or letting it rot, or burying it. Then one guy says "I got some dynamite" and the rest is history.

I'm sure Michael Bay was involved in the planning process somehow.
