Wild Animal Charging You

Definitely an alligator or crocodile. Okay, so they don't really charge as much as lunge or swim at you, but when I was little I almost got my head bitten off by an alligator (no joke).

I've been terrified of aquatic predators ever since.

Either that or a swarm of giant, elephant-sized Spiders.

well someone speculated that with their body structure they couldn't bear their weight at that size. so you can sleep that much easier lol.

i'm gonna say great white shark.

Again. The whole aquatic predator thing *shudder*. I hate sharks right behind crocodiles.

in my nightmares i can never fight back against my assailants, and its the same thing with aquatic predators, in the water you're helpless. and being in the water at night is even more terrifying, its this heaving black mass in the gloom, and every splash and piece of seaweed sends shivers down ur spine. i would make a very tense surfie.

I know what you are saying. I remember one night me and a friend walked to the end of a really big pier for cargo ships. As we walked there we could see the barracuda scaring fish to jump out of the water. Anyway, at the end of the pier and about half a mile out into 200ft water I threw my friends shoe out into the black depths. He instantly got mad, I realized what I did was wrong and took the long jump to recover the shoe before it floated too far away. I remember chasing this shoe farther and farther into the black ocean, and thinking about the bull sharks that trail those cargo ships. Really not so frightening at the time, but probably one of the most dreadful situations to be in.

A more serious animal encounter was in NE Ecuador, after 3 days canoe and a silent period where we passed by a FARC camp we set up our own camp and went out on a night expedition. We saw a giant armadillo and some other good eats but they escaped us. The next morning going farther up river we encountered the only two natives in the area who warned us they saw a panther in the same area we were hunting the night before. So I'm sure we were stalked at one point, and quite glad it never ate us.

On my way back from fishing in the same region I stepped the most deadly snake in the region "el X" but the rubber boots and age of the snake stopped any puncture.

I think I've wised up and try to stay away from these situations. But its near impossible if you want to go anywhere interesting

I also want to say that having a fear of these predators is natural but quite irrational. Sure crocodiles are scary but wouldn't you rid yourself of that fear if you could?

One time I went camping with a friend during the summer and we decided to go swimming in the lake at night. It was pitch black out and we'd only brought one flashlight and left it on the shore. As we swam out, the farther we got out, the more we realized that we didn't know which way shore was because it was so dark. It was like floating in a big black glass bowl. The stars were amazing, but it was scary thinking we didn't know if we were swimming in the right direction to reach shore.

I also want to say that having a fear of these predators is natural but quite irrational. Sure crocodiles are scary but wouldn't you rid yourself of that fear if you could?

Yeah, I thought the fear was irrational too until I almost got my head bitten off.

Obviously I avoid areas with crocodile and alligators, but I still hate them.

That and the oxygen level on the planet is way too low to sustain an arachnid of that size. It's the same reason that dinos were able to get as big as they did back then. Much higher Oh-two levels.

I'd be more afraid of a great white or a killer whale or a man-sized+ squid than anything on land. At least there's a chance of some obstacle on land that the animal can't pass and an turning up.

A vicious dog.
