Gladly. There is no way a hippo has the endurance or the agility to catch me on land. Here is a good depiction of what would happen: http://www.shipmentoffail.com/fails/2008/02/hippo-chase-fail/ Imagine a gladiatorial fight with hippos in the arena. What ensues in my mind is very boring
tell me about your crocodile story please. My friends dad was in Africa when at a water hole a croc tried to take him down. He ended up running for a few km in the opposite direction out of fright.
hippo? :bugeye: I was talking about you and T-rex's meal. Lets see how you are going to dudge that Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
yeah hard to say. They are too big to stalk prey, so they probably eat lots and move lots. Sort of like Great White of the land.
Won't you be disappointed when testing that hypothesis.. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
So what that does that tell you? It says if me and a hippo were running (and I had to stay in a straight line) and I gave up in my first two seconds - the hippo would say hi and eat me. edit: Ok I wasn't reasonable. In some tall grass I think I could surprise a hippo and not get away.
It depends. But unless it is in water or you start the match with the beast within a few meters of me, I can evade it easily. I mean c'mon. This hippo being the killer animal on land is just some new aged wives tale. I found this article: "Luckily I managed to jump up and get out of its way as it charged again." http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_19990905/ai_n14493762/ So after her stomach was ripped open she could still get out if its way. Think about it. It's a big oil barrel with tiny legs charging in a straight line. edit: do you think you would lose?
Flesh eating bacteria, once they have already made contact with my skin. Nasty internal parasites: tape worms, hookworms ... Because with these, there is nowhere to escape, once they're in you, you're done for.
They can't pivot or juke or change directions as fast as a person though. They can't climb a tree or jump a gap or run between the trees as well as a person either(actually, I doubt they can do those things at all). People are slow, but agile.
for the people doubting how dangerous a hippo is, the only time i saw steve irwin afraid was when he was watching an aggressive hippo. this is a man who plays with crocodiles and snakes for a living. that said, i haven't seen many shows, its possible he was scared of other stuff.
