There is also a great opportunity for making some money helping out a Nigerian Prince that sounds equally enticing.

    Hello again Trevor.
1] How long do you think your supply of gunpowder will last? Gunpowder must be made, and you will expend quite a bit of energy making it, lowering your net gain of energy to near zero. Blowing all that usable heat away into the atmp will drop your net energy into the negative.

TANSTAAFL: There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

Well., there is.... Nice thing about wind, solar and hydro is that they are sources of energy existing freely out there to be tapped.

2] Dispense with gravity. In fact, dispense with the cannonball. Harvest the heat directly from the gunpowder explosion, instead of letting it all escape into the air.

Just harvest the heat directly. No need to blow your hard-won heat and byproducts all over the countryside. You want a self-contained system.

I thought that someone might set up a cannonball powerplant near the salt peter mines in Chile and use the mined Nitro as fuel directly into the powerplant. I m not sure if that's profitable. So I could tell you most explosives aren't profitable at this time. I originally envisioned fusion lasers as the ignition source and fusion 1-8 as the fuel. Using fusion is hard in this system even like it would be for an internal combustion engine. You definitely expend a lot of energy through unused heat but could capture some of the heat with water to cool down the molten from the blast points. gathering heat isn't my focus with this idea its to gather kinetic energy in weight displacement caused by an explosion which has efficiency estimates in the upper 30's lower 40's.

Trevor, the cannonball does nothing for your setup except squander large amounts of otherwise usable energy.

Your enthusiasm is to be commended, but the fact that you do not recognize the limit your understanding of power generation should give you long pause for thought.

I know I don't have any use for the cannonball power plant unless fusion lasers become available, then the cannonball powerplant could be useful. It's pretty exciting to me you have to understand that something I thought of that's never been done before worked in experimental stage. Pre-cutting and crater elevators are my main focus for this idea and what I hope to accomplish. Not anything with the cannonball idea really.

    That doesn't mean anything.

Just because it "worked" doesn't mean it's worthwhile.

That all depends on who you ask for efficiency's. I got from the computer .4% eff. for a surface blast crater and.1% eff. for an underground blast crater. I used those two commonly known numbers to roughly estimate the potential efficiency's of the other ideas.

Trevor, you did not read my post.

I did not say the "cannonball power plant does nothing", I said "the cannonball does nothing for your setup". The inclusion of the cannonball in your power plant wastes energy through friction, and heat loss. Remove it. Extract the heat directly.

I gotta disagree with you on that one. Gravity power plants gather there energy from weight not heat. weight displacement conversion for an explosive is like 40% efficient in a gun. If you wanted to gather heat you could circulate water in and around the cannon after blasting. Many people have tried to convert the heat from explosions into useful electricity but known successfully or efficiently.

    What about the diesel engine?

Including you. You are merely adding the superfluous step of a weight that further loses energy that you will not recover.

Of course it isn't profitable. Explosives are expensive. Most people that use them to make money use them to mine for other minerals which they can actually sell for a profit, like coal or some kind of ore.

I know that already. This system will be used long into the future with lasers. It would be most cool of the world if it peacefully threw out all its nuclear arsenal into my system. No one has yet to give me a confident answer as for energy in, energy out in using nuclear fuels, probably because no one knows. I think there is a very good chance that these ideas will be implemented in the next couple decades.
I'm all ears if you have a new idea to gather energy from explosives it was one of my original reasons for posting. No one seems to care or care to understand that almost half of the energy resulting from an explosive is converted to blast force, not heat. this is why so many have failed before me trying to gather heat from explosives, that's not what the energy is converted into.
diesel engine's use an explosion of gas mixture not decomposing fuels like nitroglycerine.

Why would you want to? It's not like explosives are cheap, or like they're just kicking around in fields, waiting to be harvested.
You'll expend more energy making them than you will get out of them.

Are you even aware of fusion lasers or how they work?

Probably because engineers already know how to make a nuclear powered steam turbine that generates electricity.
