Imus and others have been under severe scrutiny in the last few months. Racist is the last thing I would call a man like Don Imus, but I would quickly label him as "Inconsiderate". In my opinion its people like Al Sharpton who are the real racist and the ones keeping racism alive. I live in a rural part of Kentucky in a place where we dont have people like the reverend pushing propoganda and we live quite harmoniously with birds of many feather. Granted the racial diversity here isnt that vast, but just the same I just dont think it exists here like it does in other places. People are just people here and would be welcome into almost anyones home for a meal no matter their color or religious background.
In our american society the black American dominates as sports heroes. Why dont these "leaders" focus on the great things instead of ugly things. This racist propoganda that they force feed the american people is poison and underminds everything great that the black American has accomplished in our society. In ALL occupations, not just sports, we have heroes of many race and in my thoughts thats what should be highlighted.
It seems that folks like Sharpton are the only ones who see this unequality, as for me; i just dont see it.

Why can't they both be? Imus has been doing offensive material on race since he was a standup "comic". It wasn't funny then, and it's not funny now.

M*W: Yeah, whatever happened to the White Club? I was the only female member accepted into the club. I really miss the group cameraderie, especially since I am GRITS (Girl Raised In The South)! If we can't have our club meetings on sciforums, maybe we could do it by email. I've already lined up such speakers as David Duke, Rodney King, Quannell X, Michael Jackson and the Vienna Boys Choir.

So I take it when you welcome these people of other races into your home, you turn on a nice helping of racist entertainment, such as Don Imus, to ensure engaging conversion with your colored brethren.

You disgust me you hypocrite pig. You're the real racist.

    Tree Missed the point completely

Don Imus isnt even the issue, I was using that example to support my opinion that people like Sharpton keep racism alive on a grand scale. I am aware some people might see this as a contradictory example, but the clear difference is unlike Imus, Sharpton; has made keeping racism alive his life's work.

Well... it all depends really. Racism [according to Wikipedia and I do realize that giving a definition in no way helps an argument, but I just felt like doing it.] is bigotry, prejudice, violence, oppression, stereotyping, discrimination or any other socially divisive practice whose primary basis is the concept of race.

In that sense, most comedians are racists, Imus is a racist, Sharpton is a racist, I am a racist (due to jokes, mind you, not discrimination), everyone I know is a racist, anyone who makes fun of their own race is a racist, anyone who even divides people up by race is a racist, the SAT's (or is it ACT's?) that give extra points to minorities is racist in nature, Affirmative Action is racist, all race-only clubs are racist, etc.

Basically... one you point out race, unless describing physical appearance, you are racist. If I said "I must be racist, I'm white!" well, in effect, I am telling the truth.

In my opinion, the term racism is much too overly used these days and people just need to get over things. The moment we start censoring offensive media is the day we destroy ALL forms of entertainment, because somewhere, somehow, something will offend someone (like the caps of Burger King coffee cups coincidentally resembling an Arabic symbol which offended a few Muslims).

Discrimination is terrible, yes, I agree. But to censor media... well... hell... a shitload of media attacks me every day, ever heard of Televangelists? They tell me I'm going to hell every day, which offends me, but I'm not going to go crazy over it. Granted Imus shouldn't insult people, especially when its not even executed as a joke but a simple racist observation. But if we are to censor any racist material, shut down Comedy Central. Now.

Where do you draw the line? And how do you get the entire population to agree with you at where the line is drawn?

Call me racist if you want... by definition I am... but I tend to ignore race altogether and live by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream where people did not judge by color, but by character.

If ("Hymie Town") Jackson and ("Greek homos, white intelopers, diamond merchants") Sharpton didn't have racial ambulances to chase they'd be out of jobs. They are both racist opportunists, publicity/race pimps/warlords, who are hypocrites and losers imo.

They jumped all over the Duke boys and look how that turned out.

(Jackson offered to pay the accuser's college tuition even if she lied about the whole story--which police proved she did.)

Despite his career as a race warlord, Jesse has been very good at convincing third world dictators to give up hostages. He got a Navy pilot out of Syria and Americans out of Cuba in 1984. He got Milosevic to let 3 Americans go in 1999. When it comes to getting hostages free, Jackson is pretty good. Now if only he could apply the same logic, compassion and intelligence he has in these situations to his efforts in the USA. Maybe then he would be more than just another race pimp with a rent-a-mob. Because when it comes to that, he's really good.

Sharpton and Jackson do nothing but scan the news everyday looking for some comment/action taken by someone-non-black that they can feign outrage over and get a little face time on the news.

Sharpton is a liar/bigot. He falsely accused Steven Pagones of rape and mutilation in the Tawana Brawley matter and never apologized. He incited murder at Freddie's Fashion Mart in Harlem while loudly denouncing 'white interlopers.' No apology. In Crown Heights, New York he whipped a crowd into a four-day riot on rumors that a Jewish ambulance had failed to treat a young black at the scene of a disturbance after a car accident. He referred to "diamond merchants" (code word for Jews) shedding the "blood of innocent babies." No apology.

The sloganmaster Jackson adopted Barry Bonds (syringe, steriods, tax evasion) as his cause for a day. And he pimped for Terrell Owens' cause using the racism defense. Those stories went away fast. Probably in exchange for a contribution to the Rainbow Coalition.

I do give him props for dropping in on/defending Terri Schaivo. A bit late though.

While in Venezuela Jackson called for legal action against Pat Robertson for saying Chavez should be taken out. Freedom of speech my @ss.

Sharpton can be amusing but all in all, I think Jackson/Sharpton are washed-up, discredited publicity whores/race warlords.

    Racism: Definition?

So what exactly is racism anyhow?
The word has been so often misconstrued and clouded in ambiguity that it must be defined once and for all.
    Here I go:
The answer lies in the etymology. (word structure)
"Race" is the cultural heritage of your family.
An "-ism" is a sense of pride, and a belief in superiority.
So, when we hear about "Gay Pride" and "Latina Pride," aren't these things racist?
Why are minorities allowed to be racist, but not whites?
These are questions we must ask ourselves.
    Join the battle for purity.

    Yep.

    Nope.

So, by your contention, all gays come from a gay family?

    But first: get a clue.

Ok, so I was off by a little. The general idea works, though.

Race is a genetic trait, as is homosexuality.

And, by the way, not all gays come from a "gay family," since people were not made to reproduce with other people of the same sex.

Maybe you can get a clue, Dywyddyr.

You're off more than a "little".
The general idea does not work.

    Links please.

Which sort of destroys your contention that "race" is the "cultural heritage of your family" then, doesn't it?

Maybe you should learn to present your "points" (whatever they may be) coherently.
