I answered a poll in both these threads and when I did, I got bounced to another thread. Why is that?

Do you believe in an afterlife or next life?
    God...who believes?

There seems to be a glitch in the forum software or the database, but it only affects some polls. I have no idea what's going on, unfortunately.

I think this is the problem; I just don't know why it is occurring

Check the pollid number against the t number for the thread you get bounced to. The database may simply be attaching the poll to the a corresponding thread number.

Since the forums is predominantly databse accesses, it doesn't use a filelock method the same way as if you were writing to a file. What a filelock does, is if one user is writing to a file, another user can't access that file. This is done to stop two sets of data being sent to the file during an edit.

Well something similar occurs with the database, but with posts, threads and polls.

The system has a self-recovery service which is run every so often to re-iterate all threads, posts and polls. It's usually necessary after posts/threads have been deleted to. The problem is that this doesn't run on a CRON event, it actually has to wait to be triggered by a page load.

I can't be manually fixed by an administrator, all they have to do is run the script manually, I believe it's usually found in the diagnostics section.

So in short: Is a fault of the software's interaction with the database, but it's only a temporary problem for the most part.
