Drums seemed to be dragged along because everything else was going that way in the late 70s into the 80s.


Some sounds that sounded nothing like drums kind of worked (like Human league) and I really like some elctro music. All of a sudden 1982 ish you could not pick out an acoustic set, even film themes, TV series.

Karfwerk “autobahn” was as good as it got – 1975. After they seemed a bit synthy and a bit drum.

I played an E kit just after Covid and it was not a cheap one, £900 plus. I dont think the guy knew what he was doing but he let me have a go.

I tried some grace note stuff on the snare and it picked up about 50%, nothing if I played quiet. I asked him and he said he would have to change the settings to pick that up.

Paul Wellers 1995 Album Stanley Rd is when I heard drums really sound like a set being played. I think I stopped watching TOTPs in 1983 and did not start again till OASIS!

These days it just mostly falls to earth in many pieces... or a "Rapid Unscheduled Dissassembly", as it is oft referred within SpaceX.

I know, I was just giving context to those that may not have been following. ;)
He won't go to Mars (although we could but hope). He'll be in his 70s or 80s by the time there have been sufficient successful test flights for him to risk it. Then again, he could follow the example of Stockton Rush (the founder and CEO of OceanGate, who dies in the Titan submersible expedition to the Titanic) and launch without proper/sufficient testing?

А зачем вообще нужно лететь на Марс? Он же не пригоден для жизни. Даже как "запасной аэродром", на случай,если что-нибудь случится с Землёй, не пригоден. Потому что без поддержки с Земли на нём невозможно будет жить.

Я думаю, что не только я, но и никто из моих знакомых никогда не слышал этого имени. Я найду эти альбомы, кроме Ютуба есть и другие ресурсы. А вы то сами многих российских музыкантов знаете?

Russian music did not penetrate Western pop in the 1960s. I know Russian composers, chess players, politicians ballet dancers and athletes. My first ever crush on a girl was Olga Korbut, I watched her in the 1972 Olympics and wrote a story about her. I wanted to marry her. She was 17 and I was 5 1/2 so it wold have never worked. Plus the language barrier, too many hurdles.

Да, россияне всегда были сильны в спортивной и художественной гимнастике, в фигурном катании. Это красивые виды спорта. Я в детстве тоже несколько лет занималась спортивной гимнастикой, у меня есть разряд. Мне кажется, что россияне намного больше знают про западную культуру, чем представители Запада о нашей. Или я не права?

You didnt know who Hendrix was! I know some of your history, I cannot speak for the "west."

It depends what you mean by culture, we know some history, politics sports and music.

Western physicists will be aware of the work of Landau, Gamow,read their text books, also Cherenkov, Kaptitza and his relation with Paul Dirac, Biologists will have read Pavlov and mathematicians if they are crazy enough will have read Perelman.
I followed your politics and changes through the 1980s with Regan, Brezhnev, Afghanistan Moscow games and Chernobyl- I was 19 when that happened.

Places of Interest? East Germany, Hungary, Czech republic and Poland. I have never been to Russia

Теперь я уже знаю кто такой Хендрикс благодаря Вам. Я сейчас нашла один из его концертов и немного послушала. Ну... это не та музыка, которую я слушаю. Я не говорю, что она плохая или хорошая, просто это не моё. Не знаю почему, просто это так и всё. О вкусах не спорят.
Вы ничего не сказали о русской литературе. Не надо путать ту, настоящую Россию, ещё не изуродованную большевиками, и Советский Союз. Ту, старую Россию любили. В ней была какая то неповторимая душевность. Не знаю, сможем ли мы когда-нибудь её возродить. И не надо судить о стране по её политикам. Народ и власть, не всегда одно и то же.

People who follow classical music and literature are familiar with Russian culture in those categories. I love Russian classical music ...Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Glinka, et al. And classic Russian literature is also appreciated.... Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Turgenev, Gogol, Chekov, Gorky, Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, and the incomparable master who was Vladimir Nabokov. (we discussed Bulgakov earlier, as I recall) People who are not familiar with Russian culture are pathetic idiots who are not fit to live.
