Should Elon Musk be booted out the Royal Society?

Do you think if he gets the boot, he will be man enough to not post about it on X?
Musk’s use of X posts, makes me think of a spoiled child writing silly things on the school black board, when the teacher is out of the room.

Never posted on it. I made an account years ago and never used it.
It would be nice if the genius of the early 20th was recognised and pitched against what is happening now.

Elon Musk keeps his membership of the Royal Society.
The meeting on Monday evening did not result in his expulsion, but it has drawn the world's oldest scientific academy into a divisive, political row.

The campaign to revoke Mr Musk's membership centres on suggestions, from a growing number of fellows, that the billionaire's actions are "incompatible" with the society's own code of conduct.

Mr Musk has overseen unprecedented funding cuts to scientific research in the US, in his senior role in President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (or Doge), Mr Musk.

He has also been accused of sharing misinformation on his social media platform, X.

In a statement after the meeting, the Royal Society addressed those issues, saying that members who attended were particularly concerned about the fate of scientists in the US, "amid threats of radical cutbacks in research funding".

The Society agreed to "look at potential further actions" to "counter the misinformation and ideologically motivated attacks on both science and scientists".

I was actually surprised to hear that he was even a member in the first place!
I thought it was a prestigious organisation where you needed to have, well, actually done something to push back the boundaries of science / understanding etc, not merely made a fortune off of those who did! So why was he intially made a member?? Seems you merely need to be world's richest man. Ah, well.

As for him being booted out, he should be, simply for not living up to the code of conduct that they set themselves. If they're not going to enforce that code, why have it in the first place. Kick him out, show that it actually should mean something about your character with regard science to be a member. But here we are, yet more toothless pandering.

Was pressure applied?

I disagree, at least with regard the science that I associate with the Royal Society. SpaceX have been very good at putting into practice what others have come up with. But in terms of actual boundary-pushing, neither he nor SpaceX as a whole have had that many papers published, for example. If there was an equivalent to the Royal Society for Engineering then that's where I feel they would be a better fit - such as the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Also, if his team are coming up with such stuff, I'd argue that it is those specific members of his team that should be considered for membership. Otherwise, is it not a boss taking credit for his employee's work?

But, anyhoo, he is a member, so I guess my argument is rather moot. ;)

Good points, the smarts will be in his team. However, what was cool (before he got his chainsaw out) was he was throwing money at scientific innovation and some of the goals have been achieved.
Things that NASA were stuttering on.

Anyway, things have changed. A success for space X now is tainted because he is getting funding whilst essential science is being strangled.
Kick him out. If the RS wants to retain the status it has, the ethics/ethos, kick him out.

But, the funding he is receiving is more important then your earthly needs.
The people need to be relieved from the burden of elections and leave it to the Overlords floating in their Billions.
Before he dies...
Musk "We need to get to Mars before I die,"
"We need to get to Mars before I die," he said. "There's no forcing function for getting us to Mars other than us, and sometimes that means me."

NATO and Musk
Elon Musk, a key figure in President Donald Trump’s administration and head of the United States Department of Government Efficiency, has backed calls for the United States to leave the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
Musk voiced his support on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday night when he responded “I agree” to a post stating, “It’s time to leave NATO and the UN.” His endorsement aligns with growing calls from some Republican lawmakers, including Senator Mike Lee, to reconsider the US commitment to the alliance.

Elon Musk replying to a RS fellow...
I think Elon Musk should be expelled from the British Royal Society,” the Nobel laureate and AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton wrote on X.Not because he peddles conspiracy theories and makes Nazi salutes, but because of the huge damage he is doing to scientific institutions in the US. Now let’s see if he really believes in free speech.”

Musk replied:
“Only craven, insecure fools care about awards and memberships. History is the actual judge, always and forever. Your comments above are carelessly ignorant, cruel and false. That said, what specific actions require correction? I will make mistakes, but endeavor to fix them fast.”

And from same link is this chap (not a RS fellow)...
“I haven’t yet come across anybody who has made a clear argument that actually Elon Musk is not in contravention of the code of conduct,” said Stephen Curry, an emeritus professor of structural biology at Imperial College London, who – while not a fellow – wrote the open letter many fellows signed.
Curry said rebuttals had focused on concerns about punishing people for their political views. “But I reject that completely,” he said.
Was Elon's twitter post "FREE AMERICA NOW" during Covid lockdown a political view?

The child Elon Musk has found the teacher’s chalk and is scribbling on HIS blackboard again.

Senator Mark Kelly.
The Senator was a Navy fighter pilot and commanded NASA missions into space.

On 10 March The Senator posted on X:
Just left Ukraine. What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin. Let me tell you about my trip and why it’s important we stand with Ukraine

Same day ELON MUSK for some reason pops-up to reply:
“You are a traitor”

Just to think, only just recently an adult gave this child Musk a chainsaw.
