SciForums Encyclopedia

can someone start a page in the encyclopedia about acronyms
like SHTF or TEOTWAWKI. I see some here that I don't have a clue about.

How about if we call the article "Necronyms" (Net Acronyms)? Sure, it would be false advertising for those obsessed with the dead, but what is netspeak, anyway, aside from the language of zombies?

Anyone interesting in making a template, I can help.

My first template is a time chart. Type in {{Time nav|x|y}} into the bottem of any year article to produce a last year and next year table.

For example, you do an article on the year 2000, and you want the Time navigation template. Put {{Time nav|1999|2001}} into the end of the article. Then when you read the article it will read...

Last Year: 1999 Next Year: 2001

New picture frames!

To use it, just use it like a template. For example, say you want a picture on the right, you first type in the template name (in this case 'img.r'), then put the URL of the image. Lastly, you can put a caption in the final slot (if not just put a space instead). It should look something like this...

{{img.r|http://www.sciforums.com/avatars/avatar21822_88.gif|Draqon's avatar}}

On the encyclopedia it will appear as...

i1644310_encyclo.JPG

NOTE: All of these picture frames act as tables, meaning they will interfere with text (though sometimes it can look good with the text and the image mingled together)

Other codes...

{{img.l|http://www.image.jpg|Caption}} Left image
{{img|http://www.image.jpg|Caption}} Center image
{{img.r|http://www.image.jpg|Caption}} Right image

Non-Table Frames

{{img.f|http://www.image.jpg|Caption}} Left-fixed frame that does not interfere with the text

Dim as I am, I have only just discovered the encyclopedia. What is for? The content appears to be, well, non-content, really.

Shouldn't an encyclopedia have informative content, articles, explanations etc., rather than just being an extension of the cesspool?

I would be willing to help build it as a knowledge base, but only if it is intended as such. Someone please explain what's going on here!

Obviously you have not seen:
Encyclopedia Dramatica
uncyclopedia
or all the other "wikis" on the internets

By the way I want to thank draqon for starting my article.

Aside from that junk problem Nick has caused us on the encyclopedia, and our restless reverting.

Finally some good news:

I've just created a quote template on the encyclopedia. To use it, just type in the information as follows.

Code:
{{Quote|Quoted Person|Text}}

However, there may be limits just to how much text the 'text' module of the message can hold. I'm checking into that right now...

Also, you cannot use "quotes inside of quotes" on the encyclopedia, the coding will not allow it.

Call me dumb if you want, but I don't know how to start a new thread. I have a question I would like answered by the members, but I don't see any current topic that I could post it onto.

Can anyone help?

TIA

Benny

OK, yes, you are dumb for not being able to work out how to press the 'Start new thread' button in every sub forum.

Actually technically not stating he was having the problem was "Dumb", but since he's spoken up he can now work out how to do it, it also might be down to the button not showing on his particular browser or maybe even mobile phone. Which means it could have well been a technical issue.
