CREATE AN ATHEISM SUBFORUM

6. The religion section is one of the largest sections here.

5. It might as well be split.

4. Atheist section can be for productive atheist discussions. Religion section for religion. After all, I really really believe with all my heart that atheism is not a religion.

3. Religion section can remain for those religious people without the honor of truly breathtaking atheism.

2. We atheists request. No. We demand that we have our own voice. Our own section in sciforums.
For Atheism!
FOR ATHEISM!

1. IN THE END, MORE PRODUCTIVE DISCUSSION FOR ALL.

PROBLEM SOLVED

Remove the Religion Subforum altogether.
What for?
There is no reason to remove anything.
We can have great discussion if we split them.

"This is a religion section in a science forum. You are not allowed to talk about religion under anything but a fanatical atheist extremist perspective."

A lot of atheists will be lost if you remove them from the religion sub-forum.

But I'll vote Yes. Why not?

Is that such a bad thing?
Anyway, nobody is removing them. I never said ban atheists.

Everybody is welcome to all sections providing they can discuss what they feel in they heart. This is a good thing for atheists. In fact it is a wonderful thing for atheists.

Cool Skill:

It's true that atheism isn't a religion but it only holds meaning in contrast to religions.

Can you suggest some possible thread topics that don't have any religious content?

We did have an atheism sub-forum, as well as a Christianity sub-forum and we disbanded them. The atheism forum remained essentially empty.

The lesson here is that without theism atheism has little or nothing to say.

The religion sub-forum is NOT just for pro-religion but a vehicle for debate by all sides. If the two sides are segregated then each sub-forum is likely to become banal and stale.

I strongly do not recommend an atheism sub-forum.

Or getting rid of the religious forum. What would all the displaced atheists do? Derail other topics, ranting about God?

And I recommend that moderators refrain from posting identical responses in multiple threads.

PS Is it possible to 'strongly' not recommend something?

Only kidding.

You could strongly recommend the opposite of something, which would in effect be strongly not recommending.

I voted against a separate atheist forum. I am an atheist, but would not want to see a separate forum for atheists. While not a religion, it is surely a point of view associated with religious beliefs. Note that in a world without belief in a diety, the word atheism would not exist.

BTW: There are a few religions which do not emphasizxe belief in a diety. The Quakers (officially "The Society of Friends") is very behavior oriented and would probably accept an avowed atheist as a member.

Despite my atheistic proliclivities, I would have to say no.

Firstly, it's ridiculous enough that if it were created, it would be in the Religion forum... lol....

Secondly, let's be realistic here; the vast majority of purported athiests join in the discussion in the Religion forum simply for entertainment purposes: to thrash the believers' posts, to get a rise out of them.

As rational people, we know we're never going to convince any of them that they're mistaken. Similarly, in the end, the believer's final rebuttal will always be the same: one must have faith. This 'doctrine' runs entirely against the thought of the rational.

It makes no sense to have a separate Atheist forum.

Trash the Religion one; let the debates rage amidst the other topically relevant threads.

If someone really wanted every person to learn about how transportation affects their lives, they could strongly recommend driving everywhere you go, and also strongly recommend not driving at all, i.e. strongly recommmend that you do both to see what works best.
So, no, strongly recommending you do the opposite of something does not imply that you do not also recommend that thing in every case.
In this case, I would say it probably does, though.

P.S. I think it is necessary to have a religion section - Glaucon, I doubt you would be happy with the philosophy forum after most of the religious talk went into it.

Do they believe that God(gods) does not exist?

As of today, the results are 5 to 11.
Atheism is losing horribly.
I had long forgotten that an Atheism section was already attempted. I vaguely remember it and the results.
When was this?

I guess the votes speak for themselves. No atheism section.
Yet again, atheism has lost.
This is a sad sad day for all atheists alike.
