Quotes to remember

“The dying sun will glow on you without burning, as it has done today. The wind will be soft and mellow and your hilltop will tremble. As you reach the end of your dance you will look at the sun, for you will never see it again in waking or in dreaming, and then your death will point to the south. To the vastness.”
― Carlos Castaneda, Journey to Ixtlan

"In this universe we are given two gifts: the ability to love, and the ability to ask questions. Which are, at the same time, the fires that warm us and the fires that scorch us."---Mary Oliver

God drove Cain out of his presence and sent him into exile far away from his native land, so that he passed from a life of human kindness to one which was more akin to the rude existence of a wild beast. Saint Ambrose

Bye MR.

It’s as though he knew, that SF would forever silence him. Peace out, MR! :(

What a shame. People tried with him and he obviously had the ability to contribute.
The infractions just piled up in the end.

Thanks, you've tweaked my conscience regarding a certain pile of deeply challenging novels I mean to read. The pile includes NTtL, Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, and (read parts of, now need to finish) Pale Fire by Nabokov.

My significant bother and I had an amusing conversation about the title - you can put the phrase Night Train to... in front of almost anything and it sounds fairly evocative. But this is OT, so I'll leave further exploration of this potential to any who may find themselves trapped somewhere without cellular service, books, magazines, jar labels, or other diversions.

There is bad blood between myself and that book. I need to bury that at some point and read it again.
Oh no! :eek:You definitely should reread it. I’ve found that sometimes a book hits differently a second time around. Maybe it’ll be a better experience?

No it is connotations. I was with a gf early 1990s and I could feel her drifting away from me and towards someone else.
Very painful but being a stubborn sort I told her to go for it but allow me to do the same.
He bought her that book for her birthday, that is a very intimate thing to do, that is giving a piece of your soul to someone.
I knew then I had lost her.
She asked me to read it after she had finished it, I did with gritted teeth but couldn't finish it. I remember throwing it against a wall.
I was young and beautiful then, relatively speaking so could have just moved on and I did but the loss lingers does it not?
The story is more complicated you get the gist.
Thirty years on do I still love her and hate that book? Yes.
However, I will read it again.

Wow, that's really a heavy association to carry with a book. :( Totally get why you couldn’t finish it back then. It’s crazy how certain songs or books even, bring on ptsd like nothing else can. To be fair though, that was a cruel thing to do to you back then.

Maybe it’ll hit differently this time around or at least feel like your version of the story now. And give you the closure you never had.

I do not trust counselling and reliving an event, that is just my view. She was broken and I knew something was wrong but a naive kid could not just fix that.

The one thing I have learned from relationships is, " love is never enough."
You would think it should be but it isn't.
We had our moments in the sun Olga, that's enough.

“Nolite te bastardes carborundorum."
(Latin for “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.”)
- The HandMaid’s Tale

If you haven’t watched the series yet, why not?
