People created god?

This question has been around for ages or not?

I am new to this forum so forgive me if i sound a bit intrusive on the religion matter. I personally do not believe in god, reasons will be explained further but i love to discuss the subject.

In my personal opinion, i think religion is a big laugh and a big money pot. I seem to fail badly in understanding why peope exactly believe, or at least still believe. I really could not come up with 1 point wich would make sense.

People have believed for ages. Why? Well if we look back on the pyschology of the human being it is logical one seeks answers to their questions. People have been on the rise to power ever since we developed our own consciousness. People have used power ever since they knew how it worked. The difference between people exists so one may have more need for power than one other. Between the ones that seek power more than others are two groups: The dumb and the smart. The smart obviously used power in a more efficient way than the dumb (or less smart if it offends anyone). To get to my point: If one that is smart had the tools to invent a being as god to control a certain society would one use it or not use it?

My iq level according to Dutch and English tests is 129. This means i am not insanely smart, but im above average. My insight seems to be good. People in my social environment consider me smart & intelligent. I am not here to brag but this makes my statement i am about to make easier to support with a decent introduction.

I would most certainly use the power to control society. Problem is: i think society is already being controlled if not by one group than by multiple. I do not have a certain group in mind. But would it not be most logical to give the answer to the people you want to control wich they want to hear? People are wanting to have a purpose since the moment we knew what purpose was. I believe every religion is based on controlling people by making them either afraid or answer their unanswered questions wich are formulated just right so the majority does not exactly know what it says or means or even has the need to research the matter. I cant get my head anywhere near that. We are being controlled by more ways like TV or magazines. But seriously a being in the sky looking at us? What is he doing... laughing his ass off how pathetic his creation is? Humans are outstanding beings, but not if some all knowing being with almighty knowledge created us, thats just absurd.

In my opinion this is a matter of ignorance to have a purpose or a ridicilously good played strategy by people controlling the modern society.

If there weren't any people world their still be a god? Since people are the ones who wrote about this myth I'd think we should see it as a myth and not something that actually exists, sort of like a metaphor.

ok ok, i see your point. But a metaphor that makes people kill eachother, abandon other races/classes/species/food/environments just for a methaphor? I do agree that most religions have valuable lessons to be learned for modern society even. Not all but some, like to treat eachother with respect or not kill eachother over nothing (even tho that has happened very often in history thats the irony really).

Yes, pretty stupid isn't it?

Homo sapiens, our species created religion and deities to survive our own intelligence. With arise of self-consciousness and intelligence arose our deepest primal questions: who am I? What am I? Why do I exist? What happens to my consciousness when I die? Who or what controls this world? Of course at the time of our evolution our comprehension of the universe and of ourselves was….shall we say limited. As a coping device humans created gods and deities as (what seems to be to them) rational explanations of natural phenomena, for them it was the only explanation for world that for them must have been terrifying. However with advent of investigative techniques and the scientific method we have no longer needed supernatural explanations for the bulk of natural phenomena. However the questions of our consciousness and its fate after death are still within the icy grips of archaic belief systems that are damaging and should have no value in modernized secular society.

I see it rather as a tool to control society. People have gone to war over religion. Astranged species & other religion. There is no proof for anything that is big. Like how did we get here. Dont get me started with the Darwin stuff cause he is just partially right.

I think the Pariah has hit the nail on the head. Gods came about as a means of trying to make sense of the world.

Religion evolved as a system to try and influence the gods.

Then religious leaders came along to use the meme to influence/control people.

And before you know it we have fellowship committees and bake sales... Oh, and tithing. Let's not forget tithing.

Ah yes, the facade of religious organizations that undermine their own faith and its rules...such delicious hypocrisy! But let’s not forget all the persecution and genocide! Along with priest molesting young children (you get so lonely being a preacher) I can bet right now that some theist is reading this and will try to prove us wrong with pseudoscience nonsense and ask us introspective question about morality and how we are ignorant spiteful people who will burn forever in place that doesn’t even exist
I’m posting at you Jan.:blbl:

and this relates to the fact that over 60% of the key players in philosophy propounded some sort of ideas of transcendence how?
People have been on the rise to power ever since we developed our own consciousness.
Developed our own consciousness?
What do you mean?
People have used power ever since they knew how it worked. The difference between people exists so one may have more need for power than one other. Between the ones that seek power more than others are two groups: The dumb and the smart. The smart obviously used power in a more efficient way than the dumb (or less smart if it offends anyone). To get to my point: If one that is smart had the tools to invent a being as god to control a certain society would one use it or not use it?
Given that even if one wants to theoretically entertain the notion of god, logic follows that it would have repercussions on societal norms.

IOW the notion of god existing in a knowledgeable society means that there must be repercussions on society and how it is organized

so if you encounter a theist with a higher IQ than yourself, you are willing to concede atheistic philosophy?

I would most certainly use the power to control society. Problem is: i think society is already being controlled if not by one group than by multiple. I do not have a certain group in mind. so if science provides issues of fear and answering unanswerable questions that's also grounds for criticism?

We are being controlled by more ways like TV or magazines. But seriously a being in the sky looking at us? What is he doing... laughing his ass off how pathetic his creation is? Humans are outstanding beings, but not if some all knowing being with almighty knowledge created us, thats just absurd.
what is absurd is to use the human experience of identity as a blue print for estimating the existence of an omni one

In my opinion this is a matter of ignorance to have a purpose or a ridicilously good played strategy by people controlling the modern society.

You haven't really provided any valid premises for your opinion

Here I come again Who created a living cell ? do we have a real answer without hand waving . Think biochemically not physically.

The Creator probably created life and let nature take its own course . So man created religion to control masses , is that wrong , Man created laws ,what would be if 6 billion of human would not have law ? To control human behavior Hamurabi created rigid laws , law puts fear into man . So the fear of God creates restrain to human behavio .r

Uh yeah... I believe that's what we've been saying. It's a control mechanism.

So people invented God... why? To controll people? Money works better. To fear people? Why create something to scare people with that all they have to is not believe in to get rid of? OH! To answer all their questions, that must be it... Fools.

I could be wrong, but wasn't religion around before money?

God's cheaper. Some people have used Satan too.

God is indeed cheaper. And yes they already control the society in multipe ways, not just 1 way. And @light i have given allot of reasons why i think its a stupid idiotic thing to believe in. And im not an atheist, i despise classification and personification of people. I am myself with my own questions and believes wich are unlikely to be on the same level of other people. I do not group myself since i do not fit in. I see your a smart person but how could you ask about developing a consiousness, do you think an ant has the same level of thinking as you do? Allot of the people in the world have a religion. So yes it is actually one of the best ways to contol society. How many people do not disobey the law just by using the rules that are in the bible? I have read the bible and it differs not much from righteous systems but with a different explanation. And do not forget that back 2000 years ago there was no tv or internet to control your mind.
