How many Aliases?

Bowser

I've run out of things to complain about under my current alias. Am I allowed more than one? If not, will you know if I cheat?

The only reason to close an account and open a new one is to attempt to trick users.

There is nothing you could say as a new user that you couldn't say as Bowser.
The only difference is that you would be pretending you aren't you.

Trick them with what? I haven't a ponzi scheme in the works.

Why not? Perhaps a new alias will grant me greater freedom to express myself. I'm willing to try.

Are you certain I'm not pretending now?

Years ago, a yahoo forum friend of mine contemplated creating a new user name. He could not think of a new one though. So...he decided to just spell his current name backwards. People still knew who he was...every single post.

"Otto" could never figure out why;););)

So did he change his name to Bob and try again?

You said "I've run out of things to complain about under my current alias." So it would seem that your goal is to trick people that you are someone different, so you can complain more without them realizing that you are the same person.

Why do you feel that a new name will allow you more freedom? You seem to have no problem expressing yourself now; the one complaint you seem to have is that people do not agree with your opinions on things. And that won't change just because you have a new name.
Are you certain I'm not pretending now?
Are you saying you are being deceptive now?

Like others...I have read a kazillion things on the net. I do not have an url but perhaps not needed. I remember reading about software that can identify a person...even while using aliases. It analyzes their sentence structure, punctuation, spelling yada yada. If I recall correctly, it is very accurate. Maybe it was an NSA internet topic in some forum...just can't remember.

Apologies if there is already a discussion somewhere here...admittedly I did not check first.

Into not knowing the new user is the same as Bowser.

There is nothing from the forum's perspective preventing you from expressing exactly the same things under the username Bowser.
The only thing it accomplishes from a forum perspective is us not knowing that this new person is someone we've interacted with before.

Are you certain I'm not pretending now?
Whatever "you" are, when you first signed up - whether pretending or not, you are still you. That is all that can be expected.

Essentially, the only thing that changing usernames accomplishes is escaping one's history and any consequences of it.

It isn't politics.

I've been on some political forums where some right wing weirdos dissed evidence from NASA as they were only being in it for the money. You, post here but don't post things so fall-off-my-chair stupid, just post.

I will give it some thought and simply change my avatar for the time-being.

A little while ago, Bowser, you made a big song and dance about how you were going to leave this forum. Then ... you didn't.

Now, you want to disown your record of posts here, to start with a clean slate? Are you ashamed of what you've posted in the past? Don't want to own it?

Or is it more that you want to try to fool people that you're a different person, so that you are free to repeat arguments you've made before, without being reminded of the record?

Why did you choose to change your avatar to the one you have right now, if I may ask? Who's the kid, and what's your identification with him?

Actually, Bowser, maybe this is a unique opportunity.

My guess is that you've undergone a personality transition, and that you are unhappy with - or at least bored with - your old behavior. Maybe this was an inevitable consequence of your spiritual transition.

Rather than breaking from your old persona and searching for a new one where you have no history...

...what if you embraced the transition itself, openly and honestly? What if you wrote here as someone who has walked on both sides of a fence? That's kind of a unique vantage point. You could document (in the form of threads and posts) how your views have metamorphed.

Mmm, I will always be me, or have the same persona.
