Best movie of all time

I don't think there can be such a thing as the best movie, because it's all subjective, and even one person can have many best movies depending on their state of psyche (age, education, emotional state, etc).

Personally I think that "In weiter Ferne, so nah!" is one of the best there is.

I'd agree with avatar but I do enjoy watching " As Good As It Gets" and " Dr. Zchavago.

David Lean's "Doctor Zhivago" is a classic film, one that will live on as long as their are films. There are scenes in this movie that will invariably become

indelibly etched in the viewers imagination: The opening funeral march through the vast Siberian landscape, the grandeur of the Czarist Russian palaces, the march of the revolutionaries through the Moscow boulevards, the train ride

straight out of Dante's Inferno, the Ice-covered interior of the Zhivago country estate (a truly magical moment in the film), the wealth of beauty captured in the cinematography of this film is astonishing. Julie Christie's Lara is one of those great screen personas--she becomes a woman of such mysterious beauty. The

final scene of Yuri's desperate attempt to reach her in the crowded Soviet

Moscow is heartbreaking. And that music score! The opening film credits with Jarre's genuinely beautiful music, complete with balalaikas sets the mood for this great, grand entertainment.

i'm still standing by snatch it is just brill... protection from who ze germans?
Snatch was an awesome movie. I loved the cinematography and editing of it. Jason Statham is one of my favorite action actors.

There are entirely too many stellar movies out there for me to pick just one but one that stands out almost all the time is Full Metal Jacket. And being a former Marine, i'd have to say it is more or less disturbingly real.
Since R.Lee Ermey was a former DI, his performance was spot on.

Other stellar films IMO include:
-Apocalypse Now
-Heartbreak Ridge
-Braveheart
-The Usual Suspects
-Sneakers

I have more but my mind is blank.

the Bond films, except for Her Majesty's secret service, Goldeneye is my favorite of the Bond films

I dont think I can pick a favorite. I liked 300, V for Vendetta, just to name a few recent ones

I realised I did not expound on my favorite Indian movies.

25 must see Bollywood movies

I like the film noir style of Satyajit Ray, Pather Panchali is a good example, though he did some others like Ghare Baire and Charulata, that are really excellent bits of Indian drama.

I also liked the native flavor of Bimal Roys films, the one that has stayed with me is Do Bigha Zameen, a must see for anyone who is a fan of Indian cinema.

Anything with Naseeruddin Shah in the 70s and 80s (after which he succumbed to the commercial lure of popular cinema), my favorite being Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, and absolutely anything with Shabana Azmi, if only to appreciate her devotion to the craft. Her best work to date (IMO) is the play, Tumhari Amrita (Yours, Amrita), which consists of nothing but two characters (on two tables with chairs on stage), Amrita and her beloved on the stage and their relationship over years as read out by them through letters to each other. It is one of the best performances I have ever seen.

An ad for the play

I'll succumb to my primitive instincts and vote for Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens... or anything else by Russ Meyer :)

I almost forgot.......

The Big Lebowski

when making the payoff]
The Dude: Dude.
Nihilist: [on the phone] Who is this?
The Dude: Dude. The bag man, man. Where do you want us to go?
Nihilist: Us?
The Dude: [to Walter] Shit!
[to Nihilist]
The Dude: Uh. Yeah, uh. Me and, uh, the driver. I'm not handling the money, driving the car and talking on the phone all at the same time.
Nihilist: Shut the fuck up.
Walter Sobchak: Dude, are you fucking this up?
Nihilist: Who the fuck is that?
The Dude: That is the driver.
[Nihilist hangs up]
The Dude: Shit! Walter, you fuck... you fucked it up! You fucked it up! Her life was in our hands, man!
Walter Sobchak: Nothing is fucked here, Dude. Come on, you're being very un-Dude. They'll call back.

yankee doodle dandy that movie is own of my fav movies and its a black and white musical not something i would normally enjoy

For me, it is Conan the Barbarian. I know it's not that good a movie, but the score, some of the lines draw shivers up my spine still.
"What is best in life? To defeat your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women."
--Conan
That was from memory. Great movie.

The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters.

eh.......I'm more into western films, ya know:p

Like Brokeback Mountain ? :bugeye:

Two westerns were filmed near here. 'Brokeback Mountain'....about 2 miles up the road from where I live and 'Unforgiven'...just the other side of Calgary. Can't bring myself to see Brokeback but Unforgiven was one of my all time favorite westerns. I also like Clint in all those spaghetti westerns.

They shot that last Costner western in Kananaskis too. I rented a horse from someone who was training some of the actors, when I was there last in 2002. He said Robert Duvall was a bit of a bitch...which surpised me, 'cause he always seems so nice in interviews.
