The way I see it, there is nothing wrong with Lori posting her picture as she sees fit [although the admin may have rules about pornography and graphic views which necessarily circumscribe too much exposure] and there is nothing wrong with gendanken or any other poster expressing an opinion on the picture. The truth is people will have opinions of any picture that is posted and we cannot pick and choose the ones we want to hear expressed.

This is nothing frankly, Dr Lou was unbelievably graphic in The Pitcher Thread where he caricatured members quite ruthlessly - including moi - its just that some people have the ability to laugh at themselves and some people prefer to laugh at others.

The only thing that is certain is how you personally choose to react to any poster on the forum. Frankly Lori takes it better than many other posters [(Q) for example, completely loses it when he is attacked and starts swearing quite colourfully and some others who shall remain nameless have taken even more drastic measures to preserve their ego/honour when allegedly maligned] - she has taken an unbelievable amount of shit from many posters. So oddly enough, has gendanken.

Then again, probably Gendanken wasn't reported because of her comments to Lori's pic. We don't know she was reported because of which posts or by whom!

I think it more likely she was reported for her comments to christa and Lori. Thats a general observation based on forum dynamics [and male psychology].

gendy should be bitchy to me [please, pretty please], no one will report her for it. :p

Lori, you do realized that this is an international forum with users from multicultural backgrounds?? Putting aside cultural or religious background, the users in sciforums who come from the same society alone are very plural, from very liberal to very conservative, from normal to crazy =P. Anybody who put some thought provoking pictures or made some thought provoking gestures must prepare themselves against any unwanted reaction. What kind of reaction did you expect when you posted this (the picture is shown as link):

 If you do not wish to get the negative comments, you should have think before posting that, otherwise you should have prepared yourself against any unwanted reactions..

Using your cultural background as an excuse for berating people into how you want them to behave is nasty and rude. If you have a problem with something that someone says or does, due to your culture, then simply excuse yourself from the thread. It is not your right to tell others to curb their normal pattern of behavior due to your ethnic sensitivities. If it does not directly and materially affect you, then always, always, ALWAYS you should err on the side of passivity when someone says or does something you don't like.

I had a similar run-in with the muslim member "scifes" in my High Society group a while back. The album of the group contained a piece of artwork that depicted semi-nudity, and scifes responded to it by laughing at the notion that nudity in serious artwork could possibly be healthy or natural. Immediately, my train of thought was something along the lines of, "Oh yeah...? Try telling that to Michaelangelo, you ignorant, no-brained, sheltered little punk." In response to me, he quickly put up a very fake smokescreen about just trying to promote "open-mindedness." Apparently, in his view, promoting open-mindedness consisted of censoring artwork and laughing at differing viewpoints. Uh huh, see ya's scifes.

The underlying lesson to extract from this is that very generally, if you view something you do not like yet cannot hurt you in any way, you can simply choose to excuse yourself from the conversation. If you do not, then YOU are the problem.

i expected people to easily understand the message i was conveying. that being, "kiss my ass. if you want to bitch about my face, then here's something else to look at, bitch. bye." i thought it was obvious. i expected a nasty reaction from gendanken, but did not anticipate all of this other hoopla about how offensive it was, or racy, or whatever. i don't know what it's like to live in the middle east or somewhere where women have to cover their bodies up from head to toe. i like that skirt and i've worn it to a couple of rock concerts. and i think that's a pretty decent picture of my backside, and one that conveyed my message in a relatively aesthetically pleasing way. i realize that's subjective. i apologize for offending.

Personally I thought the comment that you were asking for it up the ass was more offensive. Did anyone report that comment?

It was not me criticizing Lori's pic, it was Gendanken and a few others. Where did I state my opinion of her pic in the 'post your picture' thread? I was only offering her my opinion in this thread (as to her response to Bells' post) what could be the reasons of the negative reaction. My opinion was that this is a forum with users from plural backgrounds.

p.s.: stop following me, I had enough with you.

my reasons for the negative reaction were gendy's comments about the initial pics i posted in that thread, and a couple of really vile posts she made in a thread i had started about marriage in the religious forum.

I am not talking about your opinion, Kira, whatever that may be. I am addressing everyone generally.

It doesn't matter what lame background you come from, in this case. There is no excuse for rudeness and disrespect. You got a problem with someone's picture: then take your sensitivities and get the hell out. Do not try and ruin other people's fun because you have some freaky, ethnic viewpoints that no one wants to be bothered with.

So basically you want to control other peoples opinions because being politically correct is your culture?

Give me a reason why your prejudice is worth entertaining.

I have no idea what marriage thread you are talking about. I know you posted bikini pic long time ago (that was for draqon) and there seems to be no negative comments, but on different day there are different people visiting sciforums, you can't always expect the same reaction. When I made the sfalbum, I just don't include such pics so as to avoid polemic.

i have taken a lot of shit, but it's worth it. i like this place. and it's been 10 yrs or so, but i've gotten a LOT better at taking it imo. that makes me feel good. if i had responded to gendy 8 yrs ago, believe me, it wouldn't have been nearly as pretty as that picture of my behind is. ;)

Whose culture is politically correct..? Also, prejudice means "judging someone or something without knowing them." That isn't happening, in this scenario.

If you are asking someone to watch what they say in fear of even remotely offending the ethnic values of one or a few people's ethnic backgrounds, which most others do not share, then you are essentially asking that person to alter their expression in order to ensure the happiness of the lowest common denominator.

Thanks, but those of us brains will pass. In the case that we are offended, because someone like that teenaged punk shadow1 gets it in his head to throw out some more anti-USA horseshit, we know that we have two choices: (1) to simply excuse ourselves from the conversation, or (2) to beat the shit out of him with rationality and a good bit of attitude. However, we do not tell him to stop posting due to some lame ethnic sensitivity.

I have no problem with anything you posted. The way I see it, its a challenge to respond to the good ole boys in any sphere of life and an imaginative, snarky and creative response beats most other kind of shit.:D

You've gotten better at it, I've gotten tired of it. These days, my eyes glaze over when I hear the old familiar song played back to me. :m:
