I sat down at a table of five to play. I played all night, but when I was seated, no one played with me. There was no gambling involved but each player received money.

It is.

"Money is any good that is widely used and accepted in transactions involving the transfer of goods and services from one person to another."

It's not the official tender of any government, no - but it is still money. It just has a niche distribution - the game players.
