I didn't have any insight in whether or not people were informed or not.

Because some may have had something invested in becoming a mod.
Because to some becoming a mod or being a mod might be a very big deal indeed so some might have taken that into account beforehand when they changed the way they went about recruiting new mods.

And the new mod might have had the decency to ask whether the other candidates had been told or even (shock,horror) have had the insight to suggest that it might actually be a good idea before they posted their 'hey look at me I'm the new mod thread'.....???

Anyway if it isn't so important or to be taken so seriously why don't you and all the mods who are whining about this not so big deal step down....and prove your point about what is a big deal and what isn't?
