Feedback on forum software upgrade

Ahh, OK...

Thanks for that...

Seeing this change is like waking up X-mas day, and your tree is missing.

Why did ya have to mess with perfection? LOL

Actually other forums still have more advanced software. For instance I know one, where if you were to copy and paste text with many embedded links, all the embedded links will be copied just as they were in the text, and I couldn't find any limits to the number of pictures you can post in one posting, which is a big plus.

New display format? or is it just my display that is entirely new?
It no longer has tab to see posts in my subscribed threads.

Old format was much more useful. If I wanted to see all new posts, I just clicked on "sciforums.com" but rarely did that as mainly want to know if someone has commented in thread I have been active in - that does not seem possible to check now.

Billy, try the quick links tab at top of page. I think you will find everything you need there.

I just clicked on subscribed threads and found a list 645 long. I had no idea I had that many active subscriptions. I also like the new format for who's online.

No mobil phone option. This is harder than it was for me. But I'll try getting used to it.

Brief Notes

Brief Notes

(1) Would it be possible to set the standard post font to something else? True enough, I have always preferred serif fonts, such as our prior basic font, which displayed as Georgia on every computer I used. If, for some reason, people prefer sans serif fonts such that we must use one, could it at least be something else? In truth, Verdana annoys my eye, and even more so in italics, such as the quote function renders.

(2) Would it be possible to display embedded hyperlinks? Presently, hyperlinked text appears no different from any other. I believe it would be helpful to display the embedded hyperlinks, as it will make it easier for people to know what to click in order to find source documents.

(3) Is the showpost (view single post) function permanently lost? Post numbers (at the top right of each post) presently refer to a targeted showthread view. If possible, could this be reset to showpost?

Thank you.

That was one thing I liked the most, it was very easy to navigate and see what is where... Now my eyes are bleeding...

Also, if a thread has 19 posts (under 1 page) you can not just jump to the last post as used to...

Thanks killjoy

the "subscribed threads" sub link of "quick links" * does produce the information I wanted, but now it takes two clicks to get it. I liked the direct one click of old format better, especially with slow internet service provider and wait for "quick links" to open in 15 seconds or so.

Also there are fewer, larger vertical space requiring posts on each page of a thread - i.e. more paging down required. Perhaps I will find something to like in the new format, but have not yet.

*Calling this two step process "quick links" reminds me of Leaf Errision´s calling the ice-covered island he discovered "Greenland" - False self promotion.
Proper honest name is "slower links."

I always have the newest post at the top of the page. Works for me.

Try the Blue One

Use the blue button in the "Last Post By" column:

That should work. It's working on Safari (v.5.0.6).

Not bad, but why do we still get the same size for avatars?!?!?!?!!?

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 60 by 60 pixels or 19.5 KB

I don't like how the user information appears next to the content of your post, instead of above it. Above it was better. This is going to suck quite majorly for anyone who isn't using a wide screen.

Hey McGyver they kinda stole your line. Fixin shit that aint broke.

"We are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance and we'll be back for about one hour!"

Couldn't help but chuckle. :D Seems someone on the software development team could use a bit of training on proper grammar usage. ;)

I'm of the opinion that the forum folks must have considered this to be of value for no one undertakes change without a purpose. While I can appreciate the problems for those who may only have a phone and not a computer, much of the dialogue just reaffirms that we NEED change from time to time lest we grow complacent.

We are all whining like a bunch of 'newbies' because all change requires some adjustment.

Change is the default of the universe my friends. We either 'use it' or 'lose it'. :D

I think it is quite delightful that other people invest time and money into infrastructure that allows me to interact with people from around the globe and that they do not charge me additional for this option.

Thank you to the forum team for an interesting learning experience.

(Still limited to 3 smilies or images though. You have competition that caters to my visual propensities, lol...)
