My wife and I had several friends die over the last couple of years. I find myself singing "When the River Meets the Sea" by Paul Williams--the theme song for the Muppets production, "Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas."

When the mountain touches the valley/All the clouds are taught to fly/As our souls will leave this land most peacefully.
Though our minds be filled with questions/In our hearts we'll understand,
When the river meets the sea.

Like a flower that has blossomed/In the dry and barren sand/We are born and born again, so gracefully.
Thus the winds of time will take us/With a sure and stead hand,
When the river meets the sea.

Patience, my sister, and patience, my son/In that sweet and final hour/Truth and justice will be done.

Like a baby, when he's sleeping/In his loving mother's arms/What a newborn baby dreams is a mystery.
But his life will find a purpose/And in time he'll understand,
When the river meets the sea...

When the river meets the almighty sea.

An instrumental in the mode, the melody of an old Protestant hymn:

"Cheer up my brothers
live in the sunshine
Farther along we'll
understand why - - - "
Sometimes I think that people invented new styles of music such as jazz, swing, rock'n'roll, salsa, etc., so that when they wanted to create a new song, it wouldn't have to have the melody of another song that was created 500 years ago!
