It is now generally accepted that Mars has bacterial life below the surface, thanks to the huge quantities of "summer methane" there.

Not quite right. It would be more accurate to say that one leading hypothesis to explain this methane involves the existence of life on Mars; there are others.

Hopefully life is present on Mars, but it is wrong to say that this is 'generally accepted' fact. Yet.
