I agree that the controversy itself is probably only going to mean more people will buy or read the book.
But apart from the sideshows, the whole creation argument itself as I think I've tried to show, doesn't really get past the anthropic principle. We think about our history and how it's tied to the history of the universe, which created us, or more scientifically, allowed the conditions. Our existence intersects the cosmological wavefunction.
