I obviously don't know how genes work since even after reading the article I still don't understand this. But this is a question for another subforum.
Products of the human mind to come to culture from the outside, such as learning. While genetics come to us from the inside. What is entering the human from the outside, via culture, has outpaced the internal changes due to genetics. If we are cold, we don't have to wait for internal change, but rather culture makes clothes. If we have a genetic condition, culture gives us a medicine from outside. The outside replaced the inside in terms of the lead.
With most animals, there is very little cultural outside. There may be basic behavior that are learned. The outside is mostly natural changes in the environment. The inside is more prevalent.
When the equation outside/inside reached a tipping point, wheb outside began to move faster than inside, the direction of human evolutuion changed. Mythology was at that tipping point. Adam and Eve is less about inside genetics as it was about the outside aspect of humanity. Eve forms for Adam. Males come up with the ideas and the female learn them. Adam was the outside for Eve. They became the outside for others. It is not about genetics.
Sometimes the outside is inside. When you come up with an original idea, it begins inside instead of outside. This is a little closer to the genetic inside. It has a connection to unconscious processes and personality firmware. Mythology had to begin somewhere with someone. These people got it from the inside. That hooks the tribe up from the outside with output from the inside; nature and genetics.
Ancient mythology doesn't work the same way for modern man as it did for the ancient people. The outside of their mythology helped them hook up with their inside; unconscious mind and firmware. Modern mythology is more about UFO's and aliens; higher human potential. Rather than a large flood, the latest global myth is centered on climate change. It would be a hard to convince the modern person this is a myth as it would be convincing the ancients theirs was a myth.

Climate change is not a myth.
It is argued in some quarters that the effect of our species's activities on the rate of climate change is negligible. But there is no doubt that the climate is changing. The earth goes through a major cycle of warming and cooling at uneven intervals of roughly 100,000 year duration, punctuated by minor cycles along the way. We are currently around the midpoint of a cyclical warming; in the relatively near future (centuries or perhaps a couple of millennia) when there are no more large permanent deposits of ice, the current ice age will have ended. Average temperature will be several degrees higher, sea level will be as much as half a kilometer above its current level and rainfall will be greater. These conditions have recurred many times and are well attested in the geological record.
If you wish to argue the minority position that human activities such as vehicle exhaust, Chinese coal mine fires and Indonesian peat bog evaporation are not accelerating global warming, please take it to one of the appropriate subforums such as Earth Science. If you wish to argue that the earth has not been undergoing a warming trend for many thousands of years and continues to do so, you will have to take it to another website because this is a place of science and that is antiscience.
For tips on more accurate usage of the word "myth," refer to the discussions in which money is referred to as a myth because A) it is an abstraction which we invented and B) it only works because we have faith in it.
This is more true than people realize . It is why we measure in terms of 100 year floods , 500 year floods , 1000 year floods and so on . Typically we build on the premise of 100 year floods . The thing about it is the floods can come anytime and are not subject to real intervals . So Yeah if you build in the flood plains you can expect to be flooded at some point . You might even get flooded year after year for long periods of time . I don't know what the " Experts"are deeming this years floods ? Up to 400% of average rain fall has to be way up there on the time scale . Lets see Me wife was in the floods in the mid- west as a very young child . Was it as bad as it is this year , Don't know
