It depends on the circumstances. Say, if there is a real war, and the US defense weapons do not work as promised, some US soldiers can, indeed, end up with singed hair and melted skin. But this same failure makes it less probable that the civilians of the attacked country end up with singed hair and melted skin.
Corruption has, last but not least, an aim - the participants want to make money or get some other advantages (like no persecution of their crimes) and they don't care about the interests of the state or the taxpayers. Taking away money from the state, as well as preventing things considering useful by the state to be done (like imprisoning criminals) is, of course, harmful. But there is no evil intention to harm the state or so which would lead to singed hair and melted skin. Instead, as the corrupt politician, as well as the criminal who prevents imprisoning or the businessman selling cheap things for big money to the state is happy with the state remaining as it is.

No. I simply do not care about the interests of the US American people, given that they support all the aggressions of all the US governments. I would not support war crimes like bombing towns far behind the frontlines to terrorize the civil population, which is a usual technique of US wars, even as a reaction to US aggression. But once the US becomes increasingly corrupt, it is their own fault - once they elect such corrupt politicians, there is no one else to blame, it is a democracy, not?
In general, I know very well that corruption is bad for the population. Positive effects are unintended side effects, especially if corruption is the way police handle state wars against victimless crimes like prostitution, porn, drugs and so on. These are exceptions, not the rule.
Simply put, you do not deserve a vote or voice as your corruption has stolen it from you.
Nice description of the actual situation. The state is ruled by two essentially equally corrupt parties, and competitors have no real chance. We can even leave you your vote as long as you continue to vote for the corrupt politicians sold to you by our corrupt mass media.
