OK so here is my latest invention/idea: A super air filter for marijuana smoke.

Take 4 gallons of 35% hydrogen peroxide 65% water solution and dump that into a 5 gallon bucket. Take 15 pounds of pure citric acid powder and put it into another 5 gallon bucket and thoroughly mix in 4 gallons of water.

You blow air into a tube where the mouth is connected to a one way air valve (so the water pressure won't push smoke back out of the tube after an exhalation) the end of the tube goes to the bottom of the hydrogen peroxide bucket, having the hydrogen peroxide bucket sealed with another tube coming out of the very top where the air settles which takes that air that has been filtered by the hydrogen peroxide and sends it to the bottom of the citric acid solution. When it comes out of the citric acid I think all smells would be completely removed.

NOTE: I've tested the citric acid filtration method without the hydrogen peroxide and it worked quite well, except that having marijuana smoke go through the citric acid slowly reduced its PH balance and made the citric acid become more base and thus non-reactant and THUS unable to filter the smoke/scent properly after a lot of smoke has gone through it.

My hypothesis is that the hydrogen peroxide will take the brunt of the smoke/scent out of the air while the citric acid will perform a secondary cleanse of the air.

I also believe that if this filter was scaled up to two 55 gallon barrels of hydrogen peroxide and citric acid it could be used to kill and remove: radioactive fallout, fungus, viruses, bacteria as well as dust and pollen for pure air in a room or maybe even the whole house.

While it is an interesting idea not many "stoner's" want to go through that much hassle just to get high. Most don't care what their smoke smells like because room air fresheners can camouflage the smell rather well as does incense that can be burned. Bongs are used by some but the majority don't want the hassle of cleaning up after they get high for it tends to cut the euphoric feeling having to clean up the "equipment" that you use. I do not think that this would sell very well and isn't needed for the more you pay for getting stoned , the less you have to buy the marijuana with.

In addition to it just being silly, the smoke never really gets filtered. Bubbles contain smoke that doesn't touch the surrounding media. Also, THC molecules are "sticky". The more you run the smoke through filters, the less is actually available to get you high. Want no smell? Make an alcohol tincture.
 
They are called vaporizers. They enhance the smoking experience by making the weed last longer, and hit harder. Oh, and they are with out smell. Invest in one.
 
Well I have another invention: Imagine a classic Asian rice harvesters hat that is covered in solar panels. Inside the hat there is a peltier plate that puts out a significant amount of cool output that makes the metal plate touching the head quite cool indeed. The hotter the sun, the cooler the wearers head will be! :-D

These were intended to be brief remarks

I would only note two political/legal issues arising here:

• The legalization of marijuana will injure the commercial potential of such a device; in truth, I don't know anyone who smokes pot but doesn't like the smell—indeed, every stoner I know adores the smell of pot smoke, unlike cigarette smokers who often won't even smoke in their own homes. Once pot is legal, I'm uncertain who would both be using marijuana and seeking to suppress the odor.

• Even before the War on Terror, the United States government was pursuing library and store purchase records as part of its War on Drugs. Investigators hoped to find growers, for instance, by tracking people who checked out certain botanical titles from public libraries, or bought such books at stores. Garden supply centers were also subject to subpoena in order to figure out who was buying certain combinations of gardening equipments. (One can even make this a double talking point by reminding that the War on Drugs set the precedent for the War on Terror; so anyone who wants to gripe about the government looking into your purchase, rental, and checkout records in order to determine terrorist potential should take a moment to remember where they stood in the years before the War on Terror, when the federal and state governments were winning in courts the right to scrutinize your life in the same way in case you might be growing or using marijuana. If you supported the War on Drugs, but reject the USA PATRIOT Act, well, many appreciate your support in this new era in which we are supposed to be terrified, but that doesn't mean you were right about drugs.)​

I suppose I might as well include a technical issue such a marijuana filter would face: While some people tried all sorts of stupid things like peppermint extract, or lemon extract, or even cinnamon oil, in their bongs, most pot smokers prefer the smell and flavor of unadulterated marijuana. If it changes the smell, it changes the flavor as well. The point being that if someone in Kansas gets tired of roadside or cornfield weed, and spends a little extra for Kentucky Bluegrass (called "Blueberry" on the west coast), Fruit Loops, G-13, ATF, or other varieties of premium bud, I'm not sure how down they'll be with mucking up the flavor. (Let me also note, for those who don't use marijuana, that yes, pot smokers can tell when the stuff has been fertilized with Miracle-Gro, or protected from pests with capsicum, or grown hydroponically; I used Kansas roadside and cornfield dope as an example specifically because, around my corner of the Universe, folks can tell the difference between indoor and outdoor grows, or even between outdoor grown on either side of the Cascades.) In truth, I can imagine folks filtering cornfield marijuana, south-of-the-border "dirt" weed, botched curing, or badly-grown pot. But, commercially speaking, the people who smoke enough pot in this prohibitionist age to consider spending on such a device generally buy good enough product that they don't want to muck it up with too many filters.

The proposed invention has potential in a community oriented toward open-source ideas; perhaps the inventor would become a legend after a new generation of stoners finds success with the idea in their early stoner careers—i.e., when the market is restricted and they have not yet become reasonably-conditioned connoisseurs. But the largest portion of the pot-smoking community—at least, in the United States—will likely pass on this invention.

I don't wish to knock on our inventor here. I think it's an absolutely cool idea. But I also think it's impractical because it's absolutely cool in an abstract sense, and from my perspective—that is, with my history—I don't know that it would be a particularly successful commercial endeavor. When pot is legal, people won't care who can tell they're toking up; and I believe legalization is inevitable. However, regardless of prohibition, I'm not certain there would be many potheads lining up to buy one of these devices, or even build one for themselves from instructions obtained online.

It's a neatoriffic idea in concept, but its practical applications would be limited because of the nature of the market sector it addresses.

Currently you have "Ideas" not inventions. Ideas are great to begin with, however they aren't an invention because an invention only occurs at the point that you have blueprints you can actually build from.

I'm not suggesting you were intending to patent your ideas, however to actually patent an idea (an invention), it needs to be empirically feasible that the invention can be built, does something useful and doesn't copy what already exists as somebody elses invention.

If you have an invention idea, then obviously your best keeping it to yourself if it's patentable as any mention of the idea in too much detail might allow for corporate espionage. stating an idea on a forum will likely only really give you about one year to attempt to patent it before it's fair game for everyone.

That isn't of course suggesting your ideas currently have been viable, it's easy to state an idea, however it's the whole background behind that idea in mathematical data, the philosophical approach and application which makes it actually worth something.
