what's going on with North Korea. I thought once their supreme idiot died they would be nicer, but now it looks as if they are bent on being destroyed.

They issued a provocative video in their country showing the bombing of New York (taken directly from a video game), while the music for "We are the world" plays in the background.

What are they trying to say?

Us Canadians are probably safe from those nutbars for a bit longer, but I'd be peeved if I lived in New York City.

At the very least you should send in Chuck Norris.

In North Korea , as the saying goes, like father ,like son. I really did not and many others didn't either expect anything to change there. His father taught him what to do to stay in charge so he is only doing what he knows that will keep him in power as long as he follows his fathers footsteps.

Heh, while I also think that we as canadians are afforded some safety from terrorists by having people of all nationalities (bombing us would be bombing their own people), that is the rationale of sound minds. I can't expect warmongering dictators to think along the same lines, numerous leaders have tested their own chemical/explosive weaponry of their own people. Also, US has safeguarded themselves against longranged warfare by boasting the strongest military presence everywhere, and there will never be a missile that will even get close to NYC from korea bypassing US' antimissile defense. Meanwhile, the Canadian army has outdated tech and helicopters that can barely stay in the air lol. The hyena will always go for a harmless zebra rather than face a lion.

And btw, I think this missile test is just a show, one - to show that this son is not to be taken lightly, its his first entrance into the public stage, two - that North korea will not be changing ways just because old Dear leader bit the bullet.

How many games and movies produced in the US show the US bombing and invading various countries like the middle east, Russia, China etc

Whats good for the goose, how can you argue against Muslims being angry because of how "the media" portrays there holiest person and then whinge that someone else uses that same media to do it to you. What happened to your glorified free speech?

I agree with your point on US media and military propaganda, I don't necessarily think that the missile airshows that the Korean government continues to do should be encourages as acts of free speech. They're essentially goading on the US et. allies. Now while I do advocate freedom of speech, in accordance with declaration of rights, it follows that "everyone has a right to life, liberty and security of person". Life coming first, and security also being an important right. So one's own liberty should not trespass another's rights to life and security.

Hang on, above it says "taken from a video game" ie its not a war game, its a computer game

That being said how would it be any different from the US holding war games in the china sea with the scenario being fighting china over Taiwan? which I seem to recall were held during the Bush years

It seems to me that the US views all non citizens the same way the Europian Lords used to view there serfs and peasants. Ie we can do what we like but god help you if you do anything WE don't like because we have the right to do anything back to you.

Yeah, I was more talking about the actual missile shows that NK is displaying lol, but in terms of US, I already agreed with you and my point of right to life and security would also extends over US' actions. It does seem that US oversteps itself when it comes to what it can do and condemns others when they do the same, but where would the world be now if the United States never took sides on territorial disputes lol

As usual, irrelevant stuff has popped up in this thread just as it does with other threads.

The real story on NK is that all the saber rattling and rhetoric about war, etc. is nothing more than the same old same old. It's 95% intended to display to it's own populous how "great and powerful" the country is. Pretty much nothing more than that. <shrug>

what proof do you have this video was not made by South Koreans or the same "peace loving democracy bringing by killing" Americans?

It isn't a very pleasant task to ..."defend" North Korea in anything,

but one thing to remember when reading about North Korean provocation and rhetoric is that South Korea and the US also do their utmost best at saber rattling in the region. Not that I am suggesting peace and love would prevail, but the numerous and massive joint military drills that SK and the US do (and let's not kid ourselves, it's drilling for one common enemy) certainly won't help.

    @ youreyes,
This video was shown in North Korea. I am not sure that something that big and controversial could be faked in front of the international media. Some kid over at MIT could not piece it together and expect everyone to simply believe his claim it was created and shown in North Korea. There would be scrutiny.

North Korea's official website Uriminzokkiri posted the video Saturday, and it has more than 60,000 views.

So if it was a "Fake" then it was either a non refuted hack, or an act of treason by someone. It was likely sanctioned if it appeared on their website.

Obviously neither you or forum member "youreyes" know very much about the situation. Neither the U.S. nor South Korea engage in "saber rattling" toward the North. For years - and still now - they have both been making efforts to reestablish peaceful relations with the North. But the North will have nothing to do with it. They (the North) maintain a total lockdown and keep their people completely (as much as they possibly can) isolated from the rest of the world. All they ever hear is what their leaders tell them.

I'd also be willing to bet that neither of you two are even aware that the Korean war isn't officially over. There never was a signed peace treaty. Instead, they simply stopped fighting in 1953 when the South and North signed an armistice. At the same time, a DMZ (demilitarized zone) was established which both sides - including UN forces - continue to patrol to this very day.

I never new the Korean war was never ended. I always thought it only lasted 4 years.

In fact; The television series M.A.S.H. (which lasted 11-12 years) I have heard claim that the series lasted 3 times as long as the actual war. This could not be true either.

Not sure about M.A.S.H. but it's a fact the war was never officially over. Check it out.

How naive are you man? Every day U.S. and South Korea engage in provocations against the North. And I am not talking simple leaflets dropped from planes...submarines going over North Korean marine territory, infiltrations of spies, artillery barrage in "neutral" zone, and etc.

I'm not the least naive, that's *your* problem - not mine. You are the one who doesn't have a single clue about what's going on over there. I've kept a close eye on the Koreas for well over 50 years. In fact, my military unit (2nd Infantry Division, U.S. 3rd Army) was stationed there for quite some time. It's painfully obvious that you're just a know-nothing about several things you attempt to 'discuss' in these forums! I suggest you take time out to get a decent an education.
