Kim Jong Il dies at 69

Ctbork:
See how they weep... Tragic, I give most of them 8/10 for grief points, some of them deserve a 9.5. Almost as bad as my hometown looked a few years ago when their hockey team lost the final championship match of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Women, like kittens, can make anything fucking hilarious-- I predict yellow sleeves at 1:32 and pink scarf at 2:30 will be memes by next week.
Starved, beaten, abused they still show up in drones to validate a tyrant's existence and why?

This only proves that humans braid their own leashes.

What I find far more interesting than any politics an arrogant pleb covetous of world domination engages in is his weirdness.

Did you know his official biography claims he doesn't defecate? Incidentally, neither do I.

That his birth was marked by a double rainbow? And a fat Samoan commemorated it on the youtubes.

That his people believed his mood controlled weather?

That he gobbled roasted donkey like an American on Cheezits, and while his people rationed out beans to their babies he ate fresh lobster with silver chopsticks.

Claims to have written 1,500 books in a year and actually kidnapped two film directors from South Korea because everyone knows North Koreans can't hold up a camera since they're too busy gracefully starving.

He wanted to breed large rabbits to address famine in his country, so he ordered 12 of the biggest ones from Germany and ate them himself for his birthday.

His chefs were required to make sure each grain in his rice was the same length and color.

And last but not least, only politicians and Koreans cute enough to be adopted as pets could actually have cars or live in the capital, so if you were an average, ugly North Korean you had to live out in the country on foot where you could dig a hole in the mud and stick your head in it and pretend the dirt might taste like chocolate.

Haitians do it all the time

They're called mud cookies.
Despotism is a giant collider where human traits are smashed together at contradictory light speeds to create some of the world's strangest people.

Captain:
What's happening?
Is Gedanken angry with us?
Anger's the act of pickling your vertebra.

You gave me The Gift That is Bebelina. How can I ever be angry with you, munchkin?

Tropper:
Damn, I only caught a few of her remarks before deletion. Only the spoon knows what is stirring in the pot, but I believe that she had our “esteemed” AlexG in her cauldron.
Because....

This is the look that says it knows way more about science than you do.

It has a vas deferens, the obvious conclusion being that little girls like Gendanken can't possibly understand his complexity.

Never mind that AlexG can't write worth a cheeto and his addle bwain cannot grasp something as simple as photons, my job is to rattle my ovaries to $Kesha and write about lip gloss.

Spider:
Hey, at least you found a way to feel superior about it, that's the important thing.
Whu?

Bells:
Not weeping would have resulted in a disappearance in the middle of the night. The leadership would not look too kindly if the newsreader showed little to no emotion when announcing his death. They would really have looked unkindly if the newsreaders grinned like lunatics while they announced it. So weep they must.
Prove it.

Gendanken, do you really think it's a good idea to post pictures of yourself on the web?

my job is to rattle my ovaries to $Kesha

You still have them? God, you haven't actually used them, have you?

Kim Jong dead. Geoff happy. Hulk smash. Gendanken insert ovaries into discussion.

Bells:

Prove it.
Hmmmm?

This is something the establishment media has completely failed to explain properly. All the video footage of weeping North Koreans stricken with grief over the death of the “dear leader” Kim Jong-Il is by no means spontaneous or natural.

It’s all part of the fun of living in a Stalinist dictatorship. If citizens do not show the appropriately sullen facial expressions, if they don’t produce tears, and if they don’t properly grieve for the dead dictator, they face imprisonment and possible execution.

Sure, some of the grief is genuine, it’s the result of a lifetime of brainwashing and the enforcement of the cult of personality. But in the most arcane and brutal police state on the planet, not being upset over Kim Jong-Il’s death could mean you’re reported as an enemy of the state by the local spy and sent to a gulag. Your entire family could also be targeted for the same treatment.

Identical scenes were witnessed after the death of the previous “dear leader,” Kim Il-sung.

Millions of North Koreans have starved to death over the past 20 years as a result of the regime’s disastrous economic policies and their refusal to accept food aid. Food is still scarce, so the fact that citizens are also handed small snacks if they attend these spectacles and put on a fake display of grief is also a massive incentive for a permanently hungry population.

[Source]

Dominating a person's thoughts is the same as wholly dominating the person. By dominating the people's thoughts, the North Korean rulers are turning the people into slaves of ideology.
The ideology dominating each individual in North Korea is not an ideology born of self-determination but the ideology of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Therefore, the North Korean people do not act according to their own demands and interests but live to fulfill the demands and interests of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Il explicitly says that "the truth Korean people's reason for living lies in expressing their loyalty and filial piety to the Great Leader."

When Kim Il Sung died, all of North Korea went mad with grief, showing that the North Korean people are not ruled by their own powers of reasoning but consumed by the ideology of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. If Kim Jong Il cuts off food rations for more than nine months and causes entire families to starve, people would naturally regard Kim Jong Il as the enemy who has taken the lives of their loved ones. But instead, workers in munitions factories bless their Great Leader and wish him long life and good health. Who would believe that these people are in their right minds? Even if their bodies seem to belong to them, their minds are ruled by the ideology of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, and so their bodies and minds all serve the interests of the two Kims. In the end, nothing belongs to the people. They belong body and mind to the Great Leader. Anyone with any objectivity can see that the North Korean people are living as brainwashed slaves.

For those who've paid close attention to North Korea's citizens and state media in the past, however, the excessive grief displayed at Kim Jon Il's death strikes them less as sincere mourning and more as brainwashing at best and outright coercion at worst.

Journalist Lisa Ling, one of the rare journalists to get inside North Korea in 2009 as a National Geographic reporter, documented the god-worship that surrounded Kim Jong il in a documentary called "Inside North Korea" (watch video below).

Ling documents North Koreans' blind and extravagant devotion to Kim Jong Il and the way in which the dictator-controlled state media praised him to such an extent that government and news were one and the same.

Much of the lamentation seen at the death of "our dear leader" makes more sense in this context, especially when Ling describes the relationship of North Korean citizens to the late ruler as that of subjects to a "god king."

The Unified Front

But an even more sinister explanation is also possible: the mourners could be completely faking their grief as a way to escape persecution, torture or execution by the new government, likely to be led by Kim Jong Il's son.

As a period of national mourning is declared until Dec. 29, with a funeral in Pyongyang on Dec. 28, state media centers across the board were already instructing citizens who to turn to in the days ahead.

"All party members, military men and the public should faithfully follow the leadership of comrade Kim Jong-un and protect and further strengthen the unified front of the party, military and the public," they parroted.

Even the first announcement of Kim Jong Il's death came with deep political spin; an announcer on national television told North Koreans he had perished from physical and mental overwork.

"Considering the organization and intensity seen in the video and the brutal nature of North Korea’s government, it’s natural to wonder how sincere these lamentations are," Billy Hallowell, a writer at The Blaze, said. "Are they being forced? Was this video staged? These are legitimate questions."

Would have assumed it was pretty obvious. Then again, navel gazing and pondering one's own greatness tends to result in not seeing the obvious. Kim is a prime example of that.

bells the fact those are ALL US sites wouldn't mean that they are biased would it? I mean the US NEVER uses propergander do they *rolleyes* (like that Cuba has apaling health care for instance)

Yes, and the millions of people he starved, abused, threatened and those that have families who are in prison camps.. they are crying because they really love him and think he is great.

Really..

One thing is clear about North Korea, the people are brainwashed and the rest live in absolute fear of secret police and are constantly monitored. That is life in North Korea. They aren't crying because they adore him. They are crying because if they do not, they could be deemed not believing or supporting the regime and the result is a stint in the prison camps or death. That is the reality of North Korea.

It was like that when his father died and now we see a repeat. His son is a bigger arsehole than he was. Those crying people have a lot to fear. And cry they must.

You mean like the people staving in the US, the richest country on earth? Bells get some perspective. Do i think he was a good person? I DON'T KNOW HIM, how could I possibly judge that, everything printed about him comes through the lens of the US and its allies which are just as culpable in A LOT OF APALING human rights violations, including causing the deaths of millions through war and starvation. I was watching a TV program BY AN AMERICAN on the "rust belt", whole cities in the US given up as lost in order to peruse capitailisium. Why do I bring this up? because the same sorts of things were stated about Sudam, how he staved his own people but the troops on the border stopping the importation of food weren't Iraq, they were US troops. Moral of the story, I would love to see some UNBIASED commentry before I passed judgment on someone.

Oh and I find it amusing how you claim that North Koreans who like him are brainwashed, I would say the same about anyone who supported BUSH but I doubt you would agree with that. "Brain washing" is no different from "socialising" into a culture, it just happens to be one you disagree with

Bells:

Ah, because she' can't help herself--

Would have assumed it was pretty obvious.
Never assume and it isn't.

Rednecks bawled over Owen Hart dying, while gays and children cried over Michael Jackson.
Were they crying out of fear the state government would imprison them?
Therefore, that people are crying on national television over an icon cannot a priori be deduced without evidence.

Your sources, much like your caterwaulings on the issue of rape, are speculative.

Then again, navel gazing and pondering one's own greatness tends to result in not seeing the obvious.
Nice try.

But a person who's smeared her victimhood all over these forums-- you know, that cup with your cancer and cheating husband in it you love rattling around threads like a mendicant---has no business accusing others of 'navel gazing'.

Kim is a prime example of that.
If by Kim you mean bald motherfucker with a modership.

Excellent point.

Careful, Alex, you know what the accepted hypothesis for the evolution of the rattle is. Not to worry, I’d never out you, but she nailed your smile.

Yes, Kim Jong did have some very interesting self-absorbed eccentricities. Most psychologists believed that he had a form of malignant narcissism.

BTW, Gendanken, that reminds me, what’s your take on those crisscrossed bangs?

Ah yes, rape. The thing you can't forgive women for.

Why do you think they are crying Gendy? Because they love him so? Because he was such a great and terrific leader?

Nice try.

You sound jealous and mildly obsessed.

If by Kim you mean bald motherfucker with a modership.
More like the dickhead who was stripped of her modship for being an abusive twat.

Gee, I wonder who that could be? Who do you think Gendy?

Precisely.

But shhhh....Bells is trying to claw me.
Don't worry. I'd need claws like a t-rex to puncture your hide and scales.

But please, enlighten us on the joys of North Korea and the loving and joyous environment Kim Jong Il was able to portray to his beloved people? I mean you sound like such a fan. Ever considered moving?

One has to wonder why thousands die trying to escape every year, not to mention the 200,000 or so who are imprisoned in the gulags and the thousands who are killed each year for daring to display any displeasure at the "wonderous and joyous leader".

You and Asguard make a great couple in your defense of his leadership and country. Two peas in a pod.

Yes, those people are really crying because they love and adore him.

Really..

However, recent reports received by Amnesty International suggest that the North Korean government has purged possibly hundreds of officials deemed to be a threat to Kim Jong-un’s succession, by having them executed or sent to political prison camps.

“Our information over the last year indicates that Kim Jong-un and his supporters will try to consolidate his new rule by intensifying repression and crushing any possibility of dissent,” said Sam Zarifi.

In the months immediately following Kim Jong-il’s own succession to the North Korean leadership, after the 1994 death of his father Kim Il-Sung, tens of thousands of perceived or potential political opponents and their family members were sent to political prison camps. Political opponents were also executed either in secret or publicly following grossly unfair trials, or no trial at all.

Amnesty International has documented North Korea’s abysmal human rights record for years.

Freedom of expression and association are almost non-existent. Hundreds of thousands of people deemed to oppose the state are held in detention camps such as the notorious Yodok facility, which detain family members up to three generations. Inmates are forced into hard labour for up to 12 hours a day.

Meanwhile, more than a third of the population is suffering food shortages and the healthcare system is in critical decline. Amnesty International has received reports of people surviving on eating bark and grass, the use of unsterilised needles, and major surgeries undertaken without anaesthesia.

If we're talking about the same thing, it looked like a speed freak wearing a facial thong.

Bells:
Ah yes, rape. The thing you can't forgive women for.
That numbing stacatto on rape you learned to repeat back in the good old days of your 'schooling' might work on your ignorant clients but it won't work on me.

Might work on your children and Chimpkin, but it won't work on me, so quit wagging.

To wit, forgiveness is personal, thereby rendering the abstract issue of rape a hypothesis several degrees removed from any notions of intimacy implied in 'forgiveness'

That said-
Why do you think they are crying Gendy? Because they love him so? Because he was such a great and terrific leader?
I don't really give a shit, and you most certainly won't bully anyone into your feelings.

Cite all the kidnappings, murders, plots, and cute little statistics and numbers about North Korea's oppressive government you want and you still have not shown-- CONCLUSIVELY-- that those people were being threatened into making fools of themselves on t.v.

There is no way to know, for a fact, why those people are emoting as though this were American Idol.

Here's something: Galavision and Telemundo.

Hispanic culture has a sweet tooth for flamboyance-- watch any soap, comedy, or broadcast on Latino programming and you will find people laugh harder, cry louder, and talk faster.

Charitin is Oprah on crack.

Latino television, in general, is an exaggeration of, say, American television. Is all the dramatized crying on "Laura", therefore, a result of being threatened into doing it?

In other words, you cannot rule out cultural differences in expression.

Your "obviouslies" are the sound of ignorance pouncing on desirable conclusions.

More like the dickhead who was stripped of her modship for being an abusive twat.
Only a dickhead craves power.

Then rolls around in it for so long that her hair falls off.
As for Gendanken being a moderator once...

Gee, I wonder who that could be? Who do you think Gendy?
Since you're being annoyingly female, allow me:

Gendanken, she of the house that misanthropy built, was a moderator once.

So?

Until it happens to you.

I don't really give a shit, and you most certainly won't bully anyone into your feelings.
And you have proof of this?

Human rights organisations have documented the sheer level of abuse and brain washing that happens in the country. State provided apartments near the capital, where only a privileged few are allowed to live have State radio playing all day in the house and you can't turn it off. They only have access to State tv and news. They are fed everything they know.

It's not just bullying. It is the environment in which they are born and brought up. They know if they do not show enough grief, they can be killed. If they dare criticise or show even the slightest hint of disapproval, they can be arrested, killed or imprisoned in a labour camp along with their families.

And you, simpleton that you are, assumes that you cannot bully someone into their feelings. How naive are you? It's called social conditioning Gendy. They are conditioned through fear and coercion to cry. Because not crying could result in one's wife having a shovel jammed up her vagina and left to rot in the open for the maggots to consume. That is the reality of North Korea.

Cite all the kidnappings, murders, plots, and cute little statistics and numbers about North Korea's oppressive government you want and you still have not shown-- CONCLUSIVELY-- that those people were being threatened into making fools of themselves on t.v.
You see, you approach it from a free and Western and American point of view. That no one could possibly be forced into tears. You were not brought up under an oppressive regime where even questioning his authority and rule would get you killed. Literally.

You may want to approach this from your American standpoint, but it shows your lack of understanding the realities of their culture and that which is forced on them. They have no choice. Not crying results in arrest and prison camp or death. That is their reality. Not some twat who spouts crap on the internet thinks because people cried when Michael Jackson died.

Hispanic culture has a sweet tooth for flamboyance-- watch any soap, comedy, or broadcast on Latino programming and you will find people laugh harder, cry louder, and talk faster.

Yes, because the reality of living in North Korea under that regime is comparable to Latino television.

How silly of me to think otherwise.

You are wise.

In the meantime, you best get on to all the Human Rights organisations who have documented why they cry like they cry when Jong Il's father passed away and have documented what happened to those who didn't cry and didn't pledge to the new leader. Of course, what do the people who live there under the regime know? You should go there and tell them that their life is just like Latino TV.

Only a dickhead craves power.

Then rolls around in it for so long that her hair falls off.
As for Gendanken being a moderator once...
Again, jealous?

Have you not noticed that you speak of my illness more than I do on here?

If you want to know, you only have to ask. Otherwise you're just some weirdo who gets her rocks off at the thought of cancer..

Since you're being annoyingly female, allow me:

Gendanken, she of the house that misanthropy built, was a moderator once.

So?
Maybe you should ask yourself that since you are the one who keeps going on about it.

Because you're going to tell me where I've 'defended' a pleb like Jong.

Then I'm going to tell you how creating the illusion of Team AsgardGendanken is supposed to help your fat mind squirm out of a tight spot by oiling the sides with a little emotion.
Your inane stupidity and blindness and Americanism amuses me.

I mean you went so far as to compare life in NK to Latino TV.. Really, you're like a class B ticket for entertainment.

What's next? You're going to cite the tears when Princess Di died? Get out of TV land and get into reality and understand that approaching NK from a Western standpoint and applying TV (still makes me laugh) as an example of emotion is really.. well.. funny as hell. This is your best to date.

You clearly do not understand conditioning and fear as a motivator. North Koreans are plenty motivated.

So are you.

Just that the content of your conditioning and fear is somewhat different than that of North Koreans, or people in Nazi Germany, or whomever.

People in general tend to believe about themselves "I am not indoctrinated, I have not been conditioned, but others are. I am my own person, I am autonomous, others are not."

It would be funny if it wouldn't be so sad.

Once one starts crying, it can be difficult to stop, especially if the people around oneself are crying too. It can turn into a self-perpetuating phenomenon, where the limit for the individual person is the physiological ability of their body to produce tears (for me, the limit is around one hour of intense crying and sobbing - then my eyelids are swollen, itchy and dry and I am physiologically unable to cry any longer for about a day).

As for crying for dictators:

I think the deciding factor here is that there is an individual object of people's worship (namely, the person of the dictator) and hence an individual object of their grief, which is why they can be so focused in their worship and grief.

In modern Western consumer culture, we tend not to have an individual object of worship, but our worship is scattered on many objects.

Such as on many (designer) brands and services, many people we look up to (such as film and music celebrities).
So when one of those objects of worship passes away or goes out of business, we feel some grief, but it is not so focused, hence it is not as lasting nor as intense as it would be if all our worship had been focused on one person or one object.

It is mass hysteria. Caused by the experience of the end of an era.
If those people see themselves in a couple of months on film, they will not believe how they were behaving.

When Lady Diana died in the UK, there was a similar but less marked phenomenon. People did very odd things.
My sister, who has never had any interest in Royalty, bought flowers and made a car journey to the house where Diana was born.
She now can't understand why she did it.
She just felt she had to.

When our aging Queen finally dies, after 60+ years as a figurehead and Mother to the Nation, it will be an enormous shock to people.
It will cause similar feelings of loss.
Probably to me as well, and possibly worldwide.
