Hi. My real name is Joshua Olson and I am someone who looks mostly to the future. Some really amazing things are only waiting for certain technologies to advance enough to make them possible. Science, rationality, and understanding and three things the world really needs.

Is that MrMormon as in, I'm a Mormon? If so, may I ask what you hope to do on this science forum by signing up an flaunting your Mormon status?:bugeye::D

Don't worry. I'm not a religion section lurker. I was actually going to start a thread about carbon nanotube spring batteries.

I've always wanted to talk to a Mormon. I fancy myself a bit of a theologian. Though now I can't think of anything I want to know.

That's good to know, I haven't known any Mormons for many years now. However when I was in my 20's one of my co-worker's was a Mormon. He was a nice guy that was a dedicated husband and father who was a very hard worker and he didn't preach to anyone.

But I'm sure this isn't your first forum, and you probably expect religious questions.

You kind of remind me of a Mr Wilson in another Science forum that sports a Ronald Reagan avatar. We all know where he's coming from.:D

Cool. Want to PM me your email address or vice versa?

Also, you might be interested in mormon.org/chat.

To KilljoyKlown,

It's ingrained in my church that we should "warn our neighbors", but it's hard to strike a balance between preaching and talking with those that are ready to listen.

Maye down to road a bit. I'm really exhausted right now. I worked my ass off at work today, and I have some serious family shit going on right now. But as things calm down, maybe I'll send you a PM or start a thread with all my questions or something. Till then, welcome to Sciforums.

Welcome to the forum MrMormon.

Science and technology, as mentioned in your opening post, are perhaps not the mental visual that many of us have when we hear the word 'Mormon'. The images in the recesses of my mind include horse and buggy, dark clothing and hats.

Perhaps you would share with us how much technology has moved into the Mormon culture and in what ways this may be changing a traditional way of life.

I thank you in advance for anything you may share in this regard.

Welcome MrMormon

Welcome to Sciforum . . . . . so, we've discussed the religious aspects, enough already . . . let's get back to the OP! I'm interested in what MrMormon may have to contribute to our discussions.

DUDE! he's Mormon, not Amish! *snort*

Ever since I ended up with a box of misshipped, thrown-out hurricane supplies sent by the Mormons and fished out of the dumpster by yours truly, I've been feeling more warm and fuzzy towards them...thanks to that box that came up here instead of to Galveston when Ike hit, I didn't have to buy body soap for about a year, and I still use some of the toothpaste when I run out, also the combs and toothbrushes, also gave away some of said loot to my bro's fiancee's family who are also pretty broke, we poor folks gotta stick together, you know...
WOOT! Yay, mormon soap! nice stuff. Yep, Ike left me a box of Mormon toiletries and an Oreo addiction-FEMA is an Oreo pusher...

Anyway...

Do a search in the general tech forum before you post about the batteries, I think I linked some stuff...it may have gotten included in the marathon electric car thread though.

Battery tech is important enough that it does deserve its' very own thread.

So, you have the option to pick a short nickname that will make a first impression and give a brief definition to yourself... on a science board... and you pick mr mormom... Why is that? Are you known as the mormon dude among your friends? Or is your religion just such a defining thing in your life?

I know Mormons . I was a Mormon once . Oh did I forget to tell you all that . Yeah Baptized at 8 just like all good little L.D.S. children . Once your L.D.S. they say you always are . Some of us are called Jack Mormons . Hit the road jack takes on a new meaning when you look at it like that . Lets see now . I got a relative that was one of the original Mormons that made the trek to Salt Lake . If it was not late I would go dig out the old genealogy book written by a guy named Baily and get her name . Yeah a woman . She tells of the hardship along the way . Very interesting . L.D.S. has good genealogy records for most part . People go to salt lake from all over the world to research genealogy. Not all of it is accurate . Some stuff they have on me family is just plain wrong . I tell you though before the internet it was the place to start researching . Course Historians at the locals of were they lived are better yet . They got the skinny that you don't hear anywhere else but there
