Definition

The density of an object is its mass divided by its volume.

This idea is easily extended to apply to materials in general. The density of a material is the amount of mass per unit volume of the material.

Examples

• Water has a density of 1000 kilogram per cubic metre.
• Air at normal pressure has a density close to 1 kilogram per cubic metre.
• Some members of sciforums have very high densities.
