Urban myth
From sciforums_encyclopedia
What is it?
An urban myth is a tall story told as if it were true, despite the fact that there is no actual evidence to support its factual nature.
Urban myths often refer to events that supposedly happened in other places to other people. Sometimes the people turn out not to exist; sometimes the facts are distorted or just plain made up.
Other urban myths refer to commonly-held folk beliefs about the world, again characterised as being backed by no scientific evidence.
