Okay, which is the better and more funny of the two, while still at the same time having all the good components for a good TV show?
Family guy fucking sucks. It amused me temporarily a while back, but then the very familiar trend of flashback "jokes" and randomly encountered bizarre scenarios were very disturbing, as opposed to funny. The jokes come from nowhere and have nothing whatsoever to do with the story. I also prefer a show that I can relate to, but Family Guy is just simply ridiculous. The Simpsons crushes Family Guy in any aspect. Besides, I've noticed the younger generations are more inclined to say Family Guy is better due to less exposure to the Simpsons. In its entirety, the Simpsons blows Family Guy out the water. And South Park is just very damn annoying. The voices are so high-pitched, and based off their ghastly graphics, I'd presume they were working off a shoestring budget.
Sorry, there's no way that the simpsons even comes close to Family Guy or South Park. Does anyone still find The Simpsons funny???
Family Guy, only because I haven't watched the Simpsons since I was very little. South Park reminds me of the movie Kung Fu Hustle; its seem incredibly stupid at first, but at the end of the episode, the story comes together.
Family Guy is one of my favorite shows, but the fact is that part of its power comes from the fact that The Simpsons has been on long enough to endure weak stretches. And there have been some pretty dismal years for The Simpsons. My overall vote goes to The Simpsons. As to the South Park interjection, it's true the show is extremely powerful. But it also has the advantage of being on cable. Any number of SP episodes would not have made the airwaves, even on FOX. But I do protest the notion that it does a better job at social commentary. Every once in a while, they hit hard and true, but more often than not they wuss out and refuse to make a stand. Parker, Stone, and company aren't necessarily missing the point; they're just choosing to avoid it: hate crime, big business (underpants gnomes), war and peace, Mormons ... they sacrifice the commentary in order to make jokes. And that's fine with me.

Here here, Konark. Family Guy sucks. It's an alright show at times, and can even be funny for brief moments. But like you said, the constant flashbacks are an irritant. Bizarre/random humor is obnoxious and has met its limits. That said, I've never been a fan of the show. I've tried watching it because everyone flips out about how awesome it is. I tried giving it a shot, but to no avail. The show can be summed up on one word very well, I think: obnoxious.
Simpsons for me, because as many have said before, because Family Guy used to be a little funny, but now all the jokes are completely random and irrelevent from the plot. (Family Guy sucks)
