I am not sure. If they could manage to do it properly, it could be great.

It's already visual. So they're supposed to cast/make up as exactly the characters are. Rating would be for adults. Only a minority of adults and some young adults would pay to see it. I am not sure which studio would dare. I wouldn't be surprised if Gaiman already turned any offers down though. Tricky.

I thought it was overrated. I mean I just did not see it as beiing as paradigm changing as some people did.

In any event I agree that it just doesn't have the audience. You need more buzz for something like that, imo. They could pull it off, but I think they'd need the cast to be outstanding and filled with impressive names.

I love Sandman. It's unique. But I can see what you mean by 'overrated'. there is a fanatic base I guess lol.

Yep, you are absolutely right about the buzz. Also casting would be so difficult. I mean, come on who is going to play Despair? Lol. If they made her clothed or changed other little things about main characters, worse what if they tried to explain everything one by one in the end of the movie. Imagine that.

People don't read comic books. I wish they did. When somebody mentions 'adult comic book' well, it points out something completely different. So there are very few things.
I also like the way Neil Gaiman treats the fantasy culture elements. Especially his novels. He seems to be a sincere person without an overblown ego and he makes good fun of writers and editors. These are the sign of good sense of humour. And he reads to his fans often. Oh NO! I am a fan girl.

Once he told about being invited to a top notch meeting, where he met 'very important editors', just after Sandman I guess. He starts to talk with one of them. These people are responsible from very 'serious literature', they start to talk about literature and some recent works, then the man asks him about his own work, he says: "I am doing comic books". The man pauses and looks at him in a way like he said something inappropriate. Then further in the conversation -I don't know who said anyone else or Gaiman- the editor learns that "Sandman" is the only comic book that received the World Fantasy Award. So he pauses again and says something like "Oh you are not writing comic books, you create 'Graphic Novels'!" . Giaman said that he felt like a hooker, brought to a very posh party as a queen. :roflmao:
    I love that story.

There is a comic book story called "Sandman" created by fantasy author Neil Gaiman. He is the writer of 'American Gods', it's a famous book, he also wrote 'Good Omens' (hilarious) with Terry Pratchett. Sandman is telling about the dream god also known as Morpheus, Oneiros. He is a part of a family called 'The Endless': Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium. They are sisters and brothers counted to the youngest. They are not gods. They are the concepts personified. There are also some other characters, Lucifer for example. Death has been made into a seperate comic book, too. Well, she is cool, lol.

It's one of a kind. It's not anything like a Marvel comic. Not for children.

I will order it. It sounds interesting. I'm not usually into fantasy or graphic novels.

    Gaiman thinks it's possible.

I wonder where I got my avatar from

Watchmen, 300, X-Men, Spiderman, Ironman, Fantastic Four, Sin City, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta, Constantine* etc etc: all comic books and all "respectable" now.
Mainly thanks to Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns providing the impetus for the Batman (Tim Burton version) movie which kicked off the resurgence in comic book to movie spate.
The original Superman etc sucked (the original Spiderman really sucked and I say that as a Spidey fan from issue 1...).
That's what you get for letting one of the von Trapp kids put on a costume.

    * Despite the mispronunciation of his name (ConstanTINE to rhyme with fine, not Constanteen and making him American instead of a Scouser (born in Liverpool).

Oh, lol no. I meant more people should read comics and it should be taken much more seriously. I was venting because that culture is mostly considered
as a teenager area. May be I feel that way, because in my country it's too week.

I am only familiar with Spidey, X-men, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sin City, there was Silver Surfer once upon a time. I don't know much of the others. In my opinion, the last Batman movies were awesome, all attempts of latest supermen movies were a fiasco. But I liked Spidey movies. And also the last version of Hulk wasn't bad as the first one. The X-man movies were moderate, but then I don't know much of the comics.
    Thanks for the link.

I absolutely love the Endless and would hate to see Hollywood ruin them.
Why must every book be turned into a movie? Why not let a great book remain a great book?
That said, I would like to see his "Good Omens" be made into a movie.

There was a Surfer movie? Not the Fantastic Four sequel? I know they're planning a Silver Surfer movie.

Yep the three latest Spidey movies were good, they had the flavour of the comic books, but the original (late 1970s) sucked.

I'd really like to see a movie of The Authority, not your typical superhero fare: how many comic books have the "heroes" announce to the world "We're in charge now, behave or we'll kick your teeth in" before taking over the government of the USA?

Like I said, was that actually a Silver Surfer movie or was it Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer?

I wouldn't want it to be ruined either.

Quotes are from the interview, Los Angeles Times, dated 3 December, 2008.

    Clearly, neither does he.

I don't like this bit. I know it's a fact, but just don't like it. "The thing that has really made it practical for the superhero movies to exist is the simple fact that you can put it on screen now."

And the idea of strong visual effects combined with action scenes make a good fantasy or sci-fi movies is dragging the quality down.
But then people think Matrix is better than Dark City. And I wonder why we don't get any good movies based on Le Guin books? LOL

This is interesting. I like it that, he is aware of it and also acknowledging it.

Really! LOLOLOL. I totally missed it.

I was talking about the comics called Silver Surfer. Do I remember it wrong? The one that prisoned in the world by her evil god who consumes earth like planets?

    I suspected as much.
Mind you they do catch me out occasionally (this from the guy that turned up for the theatre release trampling through teeny boppers who thought they were fans and there was me wearing my "Xavier's School for Gifted Students" badge that I'd owned for a decade or more...): Nick Fury: Agent of Shield was one that got past me for a number of years, meh it was a made-for-TV movie.
David Hasselhoff of all people in the title role.
    And it was nicely done...
Sigh, another long-standing fanship of mine, another one I'd read from issue 1.

Agreed, Gaiman was right with "better no movie than a bad one".

    It had more guns...
(And Carrie Ann Moss in skin tight PVC...

    Wizard of Earthsea?

Lolol. More guns, soap operas, future society as rave party...
If that's the movie I think, no it's not even close to good. But I meant other Le Guins. Well, her literature is so diverse. I would like to see 'Dispossessed', a couple of stories from 'Birthday of the World', 'Change of Planes'. 'Left Hand of Darkness' would be awesome as a movie. Who would dare to do that, lol. Not enough action or women wearing tight clothes.
