They seem to be a group which makes covert plans about the fate of citizens of free countries. Shouldn't the people who attend these secret meetings be held to task or at least have to answer to congressional oversight committees?

They are not secret and no they are not illegal. The masters of the commerce and finance can plot and scheme all they want, inviting the leaders of g7 counitries and others to kowtow to THEM.
Your only realy option is to make a huge stink if people in your government show up at a Bilderberg meeting.
Or , not participate in the so-called "global" ecomony.

When you talk about congressional oversight, I assume you are talking about the US citizens that attend these events. Basically no, they have a right to free speech and freedom of association (Donald Rumsfeld is a member).

Someone at British Airways talks to someone at Virgin Atlantic -- and it's illegal and costs millions of dollars in fines.
Political and corporate bigwheelers from round the world get together to figure out how to screw the rest of us -- and it's legal?
Some discrepancy surely . . . ?

Maybe. The problem is we often suffer the same fate as the herd. While we don't control it and are not part of it we are not totally insulated from what happens to it. We can still get trampled like Mufasa did in the Lion King.

IF they are as powerful as you claim,NO one will be able to control THEM anyway.
besides I dont think its Bilderbergs only who control the world but all the leaders of the G8 countries.
