When do you think the human race will become extinct, and why? Will we destroy ourselves or be taken over by evolved chimpanzees?

I remember that some time ago they began mapping the neanderthal genome and more recently the have put 1 of these extinct genes in a living cell to prove that neanderthals sometimes had red hair, this convinces me somehow that we'l be reviving them before 2057 possible before the first human set foot on mars. Considering the immprovements of science, it probably doesn't really matter wether we become extinct or not because some species would probably be stupid bored and capable enough to bring us back. I realise this is rather optimistic
i would place a bet on us being at least an endangered species in the next few millenia as for why we would die out is hard to say - destroy ourselves? i'd be suprised if a nuclear war destroyed everyone.. climate? Once again i'm sure a handful or everyone will survive. but yeah of course we will die
I see only one reasonable possibility for human extinction - the collision with a very large asteroid or comet. And given enough time to develop effective countermeasures it may be possible to even avoid that. Nothing we could do ourselves would ever accomplish it. Global warming (climate change is a far better term) would still leave huge parts of the world habitable. Even total nuclear war would leave pockets of survivors - more than enough to breed and multiply.

And I doubt climate change will be ignored to that point." so that implies that its not climate change or nuclear weapons that will destroy us but that we will destroy ourselves? mass suicide?
Nothing short of a nova or something else that could destroy the planet as a whole, will snuff us out. Like the members above posted, even global warming and nuclear war won't wipe us out entirely.
