Why was PhysicsForums.com so lame? (in 2004)

Jozen-Bo,
While that thread over there is indeed old, there is a long story in regards to how it came about.

During 2002/03 there were a few members that were running an independent "Board wars" site, this is where they move across forums stirring up the resident posters by stating how another forum thinks them all dumb or rude, then they go to that other forum and say the same about the other forum.

This use to cause members to migrate from one site or another to just start flaming the forum for now reason. Those instigators would then just close their sock accounts down and watch the fireworks which seeking out new forums to generate entertainment in.

What they did was completely destructive.

However to begin with both Administrators of both forums didn't know about what was happening, so when they thought the members were being inspired to riot with one another they blamed each other. I can remember that both Admin's didn't see eye to eye to begin with. I think in the end though they managed to sort their differences out but it did effect both forums as those anarchist flame starters had one the day.

Nowadays while people might complain about moderation over here on this forum, we are ever vigilant and wary of "socks" because of this method of manipulating attacks. In fact it's one of the main reasons we tend not to allow posts to be made here about other forums and their addresses, just encase it's a ruse to cause more mischief.

Mod Note:
I've changed the thread title from "Why are is physicsforums.com so lame?" to reflect that the initial post is about a post over there from 2004. Since this thread will eventually be searchable, I don't want a bunch of first time posters appearing complaining about the title since it's all very old news.

Very much still

I posted once in the physicsforums quantum physics section. It was some research results. The next day I received an e-mail that said WARNING!, and followed by someone claiming I did not understand physics. It's quite sinister to watch some 22 year old delete your research post, put up for discussion purposes and reprimand you for not understanding physics. I deleted my account with a vengeance. The fact was that HE did not understand the experiment.

I suppose if someone wants to run a physics forum like N. Korea, that's fine. The same type of web-genics are occurring widely on programming sites as well. All trends point toward the complete dehumanization of post data. Posters on stackoverflow are banned if they ask 'cute' questions. It's all just sad nonsense. Humanity trying to filter and perfect itself through metrics. It's all ending badly.
