Well, it has ceased its chemical interactions. Mitochondria are not alive, so they can't die.
What do you mean that Mitochondria are not alive ?

They are a component of a living cell. They do not contain their own code required to reproduce - they need the contents of the cell they live in to reproduce.
So they fail that the criterion of life.
Hmm...but the DNA need the energy from the mitochondria to reproduce .

i used to think maybe people are better because top of the food chain and so-called more 'evolved' but that isn't true generally. you find out the truth that these are hyped lies once you get to know the average person's motivations which are pretty much base for the most part as in ego, lust, greed, pettiness, stupidity etc besides the eating/defecating, sleeping etc. there is no fundamental difference between viruses, bacteria and people, except people are just larger. and the most enlightening realization is that the added connotation to 'evolved' as in better or more intelligent isn't true either. generally as lame as the truth is, they are just physically larger lifeforms but not necessarily more intelligent or better as far as the general population, in comparison to their size to smaller lifeforms, even as small as a virus. in truth, most people wouldn't even know how to fight off these on their own, as it's, again, a system of other bacteria that is doing it for them.
so this notion that 'people' are better is a fallacy. they just are able to dominate as a whole overall in comparison but they are not "intrinsically" different/better because still organic filthy lifeforms motivated by the same survival instincts and base urges/motives.
the truth is pretty clear: why would people be? that's the roots. if you developed from shit/primordial slime, then that will never change, unless it can be artificially modified or changed. this is why the higher self (for those who have developed to this point) is aware how loathsome the lower self is and re-educate, change or eradicate it, instead of indulging it.
but the worst i've noticed is that there is a fundamental flaw in nature where it's low origins regress (circular loss/gain) it's progress in evolution. this is because the base motives/urges are the impetus and used to evolve so it becomes a catch-22 and people are generally disgusting contradictions, hypocritical, and perverted lifeforms who end up pretty much acting like they are something they are not. for instance, it's easier to destroy better so you can win as topdog. but why? the adulation is originally intended for the actual quality attainment, not just for ego but ego becomes the main reason etc which renders most people, situations and society fake overall. for instance, you want to be recognized as upstanding, but dishonorably done because it is easier, therefore evolving as an imposter etc. this is common among lifeforms and you see it especially very clearly in humans. the problem is the base urges are nothing more than simple self-centered ego so there is no real appreciation or even understanding of many things that people attain or try to be, so will even attain it through the exact opposite method than what the goal actually represents as it is just a medium to gain status, money, respect and power.
the real 'evolved' reasons are totally disrespected or not even understood. the world is full of imposters who are acting, being or doing for none other than ego. and what are most people underneath? no different than the roaches pretending to be greater or better.
